ANNUAL MANAGER SURVEY
Introduction
ExamFX, the leading national provider of technology-based training
solutions for the Insurance and Financial Services industry, has recently
completed their annual Manager Survey.
Over 700 managers and recruiters completed this year’s survey,
providing us with valuable feedback to better understand satisfaction
with ExamFX products and services. We also collected many
suggestions for areas we can improve upon, which we will use to help
guide the development of our company.
This year our survey was expanded to focus on the following areas:
• How prelicensing providers are chosen
• Main reasons for choosing ExamFX
• Prelicensing cost and exam fee reimbursement
• Candidate recruitment efforts
• Most frequent issues encountered by candidates
• Overall satisfaction with prelicensing courses
• Securities and CE course awareness and satisfaction
• Likelihood of recommending ExamFX to colleagues and candidates
• Satisfaction with Sales Representatives and Business Operations
• Opinions regarding ExamFX Student Tracking Tools
The responses we received and the feedback provided was overwhelmingly positive and supportive of the
recent initiatives we have put in place to ensure the prelicensing process is as easy and effective as possible.

The participants of our 2015 survey included a wide range of professionals,
with varying levels of industry experience and recruitment volume. In total,
711 managers and recruiters provided us insights into their world. Here’s

? How Prelicensing Providers Are Chosen
In order to understand our customers fully, we have to know how
managers and recruiters decide which prelicensing provider to work
with. Not surprisingly each respondent to our survey had a slightly
different set of reasons.
When recommending a provider to a Management Team or team of Recruiters, 54% of respondents said they
referred only 1 provider, with the remaining 46% referring only 2 or 3 providers.
When recommending a provider to New Candidates, 62% of respondents gave the candidate specific
instructions of whom to use. One out of 5 managers simply signed up the candidate themselves, giving the
candidate no option. The remaining 17% gave the candidate a list of approved or preferred providers and
instructed him or her to choose whichever provider they felt most comfortable with.

not pay for OR reimburse any prelicensing costs or exam fees. For the companies that do cover some of the

Issues Affecting Prelicensing Students
For many students, insurance industry terminology is a foreign language
and they have great difficulty understanding the concepts. Other
students have been in the industry for years and are simply adding
additional licenses. Either way, ExamFX has designed a system to fully
explain all content in a way that benefits the learning styles of both
extremes.
Regardless of the student’s situation, there are many recurring issues cited most frequently during the
prelicensing process. According to our survey respondents, these are the issues most frequently mentioned
to them by their candidates.
STUDENT CONCERNS WITH PRELICENSING PROCESS
Were unprepared for the time commitment required to study and get licensed 23%
Had concerns about the licensing costs 14%
Had difficulty understanding the topics and the amount of information covered 13%
Didn’t know the best way to study course material 13%
Had difficulty passing the state exam 7%

In order to alleviate some of these concerns, ExamFX developed a unique course feature called the Virtual
Study Calendar. This great tool gives students the ability to set up a personalized study calendar that arranges
the tasks needed to complete each day based on their selected preferences. A study schedule, based on their
entries and their state's requirements, will be automatically populated, and their calendar will show the topics
that should be completed each day in order for them to successfully complete the course by their selected
testing date. The "Chapters to Study Today" links directly to the appropriate chapter of their course.
As the student progresses through their course, they will notice that the chapters completed will be marked off
in their study calendar. They can also set up daily or weekly notifications that remind them about the tasks they
need to accomplish for that time frame. Plus, they also have the option to export their calendar should they wish
to print it out.

courses? While we have primarily been a new recruit’s first introduction
into the knowledge required to excel in the insurance industry, we are
also a resource for their ongoing education.

Each manager and recruiter has their own specific reasons for using

Last year’s survey revealed several areas where we could improve our student tracking tools, so we worked

of experience, our highly-knowledgeable representatives understand the issues commonly faced in the industry
and are able to answer most questions the first time a manager or recruiter calls.

 Recommendations & Referrals
Salespeople in every profession welcome recommendations and
referrals from their current customers. At ExamFX the majority of
managers and recruiters we work with every year refer ExamFX, and
only ExamFX, to their recruits. And each day we receive positive stories
from students describing their prelicensing story and their successful
completion of the licensing exam.
Based on this year’s survey, 91% of respondents would recommend ExamFX to
colleagues and candidates. Two years ago our “recommendation” score was only
at 85%, so we really appreciate all the great feedback received by our managers
and recruiters.
MANAGER COMMUNICATIONS
Keeping on top of all the changes in the prelicensing industry takes an exceptional effort. Communicating
those changes is a top priority of ExamFX, with regularly-scheduled email announcements and other
communications. ExamFX is at the forefront of any changes made by any of the 50 state DOIs, FINRA, NASAA,
Vertafore, PSI, Prometric, etc. In addition we attend state meetings and hear first-hand discussions about the
proposed changes to testing outlines.
We communicate with managers and students as far in advance of the upcoming changes as possible.
According to this year’s survey we are MORE effective than other providers in communicating those changes,
and we will be implementing additional communication channels in the near future.

In this year’s survey, one of the top reasons given for using ExamFX was
the Student Tracking Tools we offer. Knowing how important these
tools are to the successful onboarding of new recruits, we continuously
strive to improve the resources available to managers and recruiters.

Manager Dashboard, accessible online at
tracking.examfx.com, with additional tracking
features. There are at-a-glance charts and graphs
that provide a quick reference point for the progress
of students. For managers of managers there is also
a dashboard which provides an overview of total
students enrolled for each manager and the overall
completion percentage of that manager’s pool of
students.

  • 4. ? How Prelicensing Providers Are Chosen In order to understand our customers fully, we have to know how managers and recruiters decide which prelicensing provider to work with. Not surprisingly each respondent to our survey had a slightly different set of reasons. When recommending a provider to a Management Team or team of Recruiters, 54% of respondents said they referred only 1 provider, with the remaining 46% referring only 2 or 3 providers. When recommending a provider to New Candidates, 62% of respondents gave the candidate specific instructions of whom to use. One out of 5 managers simply signed up the candidate themselves, giving the candidate no option. The remaining 17% gave the candidate a list of approved or preferred providers and instructed him or her to choose whichever provider they felt most comfortable with.   • 5. Issues Affecting Prelicensing Students For many students, insurance industry terminology is a foreign language and they have great difficulty understanding the concepts. Other students have been in the industry for years and are simply adding additional licenses. Either way, ExamFX has designed a system to fully explain all content in a way that benefits the learning styles of both extremes. Regardless of the student’s situation, there are many recurring issues cited most frequently during the prelicensing process. According to our survey respondents, these are the issues most frequently mentioned to them by their candidates. This great tool gives students the ability to set up a personalized study calendar that arranges the tasks needed to complete each day based on their selected preferences. A study schedule, based on their entries and their state's requirements, will be automatically populated, and their calendar will show the topics that should be completed each day in order for them to successfully complete the course by their selected testing date. The "Chapters to Study Today" links directly to the appropriate chapter of their course. As the student progresses through their course, they will notice that the chapters completed will be marked off in their study calendar. They can also set up daily or weekly notifications that remind them about the tasks they need to accomplish for that time frame. Plus, they also have the option to export their calendar should they wish to print it out. 03

  • 11.  Recommendations & Referrals Salespeople in every profession welcome recommendations and referrals from their current customers. At ExamFX the majority of managers and recruiters we work with every year refer ExamFX, and only ExamFX, to their recruits. And each day we receive positive stories from students describing their prelicensing story and their successful completion of the licensing exam. Based on this year’s survey, 91% of respondents would recommend ExamFX to colleagues and candidates. Two years ago our “recommendation” score was only at 85%, so we really appreciate all the great feedback received by our managers and recruiters. MANAGER COMMUNICATIONS Keeping on top of all the changes in the prelicensing industry takes an exceptional effort. Communicating those changes is a top priority of ExamFX, with regularly-scheduled email announcements and other communications. ExamFX is at the forefront of any changes made by any of the 50 state DOIs, FINRA, NASAA, Vertafore, PSI, Prometric, etc. In addition we attend state meetings and hear first-hand discussions about the proposed changes to testing outlines. We communicate with managers and students as far in advance of the upcoming changes as possible.
