The Butler County Prison Board announced the appointment of Joseph DeMore as the new warden of the Butler County Prison. DeMore has over 15 years of experience in corrections, most recently as chief deputy warden of operations for Allegheny County Bureau of Corrections. He will replace the retiring warden Rick Shaffer, starting on April 27, 2015. DeMore's experience includes a variety of positions within the Allegheny County Jail, rising to oversee daily operations of the 3,165-bed facility.

Mr. DeMore begins his employment with the County on April 27, 2015, and will take over as warden upon the July 10 retirement of current Butler County Prison Warden Rick Shaffer. Mr. DeMore comes to the position from 15 years with the Allegheny County Bureau of Corrections, most recently as chief deputy warden of operations. “Mr. DeMore has tremendous experience and top-notch qualifications in the corrections field,” said Prison Board Chairman and County Commissioner A. Dale Pinkerton. “He will be a great asset to Butler County.” Since beginning his corrections career with the Allegheny County Jail in 2000, Mr. DeMore has served in a variety of increasingly responsible positions, from corrections officer (2000-2003) to sergeant (2003-2006), captain (2006- 2013), major of the guard (2013-2014), and deputy warden of operations (2014 to present). In his current position, he oversees the daily operations of the 3,165- bed facility, including supervision of more than 500 corrections officers, 400 civilian employees, and a daily average inmate population of 2,600. Originally from Shaler, PA, he holds a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Slippery Rock University and is a member of the American Correctional Association, the PA Prison Warden Association, the U.S. Deputy Warden Association, and the PA County Corrections Association. # # # For additional information: Butler County Prison Board, Chairman A.
