15. What do physicians want?
User Story 1
Every day at work, I chat with any number of colleagues about any number of patients. It
could be about critical things, small things, urgent things, or non-urgent things.A lot of
this happens through text messaging. Some through emailing…
User Story 2
Often, I also have to share documents – lab test, paperwork, scans with my colleagues.
Again, this happens through email. Sometimes through our EMR, but it’s hard to get an
immediate response to that without also using text messaging.
User Story 3
The patients I see are often here for long term or chronic care issues. But I have limited
ways to communicate with them outside of the clinic or hospital. They try to reach me
through pages or through phone calls occasionally. I may not have time to deal with them
even if they could reach me.
User Story 4
Other times, I need to share documents – lab tests, paperwork, scans with my patients.
This is often seperate from the previous communication.
16. Pain points?
“…we were able to flesh out the specific issues much more
intensely: electronic health record (EHR) frustrations and
group vs. single messaging issues were the two core pain
points discussed by users”
17. Current State?
■ The industry primarily relies on
pagers to communicate
emergencies
■ Almost 85% of hospitals rely on
pagers
■ “The US pager market peaked at
about 45 million devices in the mid-
1990s, but a few million pagers are
still in use today, mostly in health
care…”
18.
19. Potential Cost (per Hospital)
When accounting for time and labor, inefficiencies from
pagers costs each hospital an estimated:
$1.75 million
– Patient Admission: $728,000
– Emergency Response Coordination: $265,000
– PatientTransfer: $754,000

Imprivata (via Ponemon): 80% of providers admitted to texting unsecure information (providers already texting unsecure messages)
KLAS: Urgency for quick deployment within 6-12 months and preference to basic solutions
For providers with a platform, this may mean that providers did not understand platform capabilities or it is not user friendly
For providers with a pager, this matter is even more urgent

1) Telecommunication technology has proven its worth when it comes to reducing costs and delivering care more efficiently.
2) Cost reduction is a powerful value proposition leveraged by all telecoms analyzed in this research

General Assembly: Finding the Product Market Fit
Basic Products vs. Strategic Products
Ratings based partially on user reviews from KLAS Report: Secure Messaging 2015 – First Look at Who Providers are Considering and Why
Many vendors, with many new entrants to the market most are unable to communicate externally of the platform
http://www.healthcareitnews.com/news/tigertext-leads-messaging-market-now
Already used by one practice.
Largest market leader (32% of the time in consideration), but mostly for short term strategy
Heavily recommended, but has a high price ($10.65/device per month/ Basic Plan: $3.99 via Sprint)
Lack of EMR Integration (i.e. upload one photo twice), considered a high performing, but basic and simple application
http://www.healthcareitnews.com/news/tigertext-leads-messaging-market-now
Gains recognition from previous Imprivata software
Also has a strong mindshare (comparable to TigerText)
Potential for long term strategies and integration with other Imprivata security products
Physicians happy with robust features
Cerner and athenaHealth live with internal EMR SMS texting
TigerText – Basic application, but meets expectations well – better for short term strategy but that may be necessary due to the cost of inefficiency and compliance issues causing potential legal issues. It may need to eventually be replaced and is very costly compared to other solutions
CorText – Strategic application, has strong presence in the community due to Imprivata’s other applications. Strong opportunity for growth and currently offers multiple functionalities
