Theexisitinggreenspaceisdisconnectedandlargely
un-utilized by the local residents. The new
developmentenhancestheconnectionstoexisting
greenspacesbyintroducingporosityandaccessibility
throughthesiteandbeyond.
Thebuildingmassandheightsarearrangedsoastooptimizeviews
oftheThamesandmaximisedaylightinthehousingunits.
EightAlbertEmbankmentexemplifiesanoverlappingconditionofmultiplesocialandculturaldrivers
withintheVauxhallarea.TheseincludetheThamesRiver,thehistoricfirebrigadeheadquarters
building,disconnectedpublicgreenspacesandanemergingartscene.TheRescurrectingvauxhall
Projectseekstoform acohesionbetweenthesefactorstodevelopstrongcommunityconnectivity
andpromoteeconomicwellbeing.
Consideringthesite’sadjacencytotheThames,avisual
andliteralconnectionismadebupullingwaterfromthe
riverintothesite.Thiswaterisusedtocreatea
reectingpoolatthebaseofthelondonFireBrigade
MemorialTower.
Thedesignexaminesthesiteonanurbanscaleinordertodevelop
linkagesbetweentheexistingcityfabric.Theseincludeprimaryciculation
paths,visualconnections,prominentcommercialcorridors,and
proximimitytogreenspace.Thedesignitselfrepresentstheconvergences
ofthesefactors,andenhancestheexistingconditionstoincreaseoverall
connectivity.
