Some words in the field of restaurants and their definitions.

1. 1-Appetizer / starts
An appetizer is the first course of a meal. It consists of
a small amount of food.
2- Bill
a request for payment of money owed, or the piece of
paper on which it is written.

2. 3-Bistro
A small restaurant, serving moderately priced simple
meals in a modest setting with alcohol.
4- Blacken
When blackened, the food is dipped in melted butter,
then dredged in a combination of herbs and spices,
before being cooked in a hot skillet.
the result is chunks of meat or fish with a dark brown
to black crust around the outside.

3. 5- Booking
A booking is the arrangement that you make when you
book something such as a hotel room, a table at a
restaurant, a theatre seat, or a place on public
transport.
6- Booster seat
A booster seat or a booster cushion is a special seat
which allows a small child to sit in a higher position,
for example at a table or in a car.

4. 7- Buffet
a meal consisting of several dishes from which guests
serve themselves.
8- Busboy
Restaurant employee whose job is to do just about
everything: clear tables, fill glasses, transport dishes
to and from the kitchen

5. 9- Chip shop
A chip shop is a shop which sells hot food such as fish
and chips, fried chicken, sausages, and meat pies.
The food is cooked in the shop and people take it
away to eat at home or in the street
10- Cocktail
An alcoholic drink consisting of a spirit or spirits mixed
with other ingredients, such as fruit juice or cream.

6. 11- Complementary
means something is free, usually in a restaurant, hotel
or something like that. For example, at many Mexican
restaurants in the United States, you get
complimentary chips and salsa with any meal.
12- Combo meal
A combination meal, often referred as a combo-meal,
is a type of meal that typically includes food items and
a beverage.

7. 13- Course
In dining, a course is a specific set of food items that
are served together during a meal, all at the same
time. A course may include multiple dishes or only
one, and often includes items with some variety of
flavors.
14- Cutlery
implements used for eating, such as knives, forks, and
spoons

8. 15- Deli
A store where ready-to-eat food products (such as
cooked meats and prepared salads) are sold.
16-Desset
A usually sweet course or dish (as of pastry or ice
cream) usually served at the end of a meal.

9. 17-Dine
To dine is to eat a meal, particularly the last meal of
the day.
18-Dish
A container, flatter than a bowl and sometimes with a
lid, from which food can be served or which can be
used for cooking.

10. 19- Doggie bag
a small bag provided on request by a restaurant for a
customer to carry home leftovers of a meal, ostensibly
to feed a dog or other pet.
20- Dressing
A sauce for salads, typically one consisting of oil and
vinegar mixed together with herbs or other flavorings.

11. 21- Entrée
A dish served as the main course of a meal.
22- Fine dining
Fine dining restaurants, also known as white
tablecloth restaurants, are typically high-end and
elegant restaurants.

12. 23- free refills
Free refills occur when a drink, usually soft drink, tea
or coffee, is allowed to be filled again, free of charge,
after being consumed.
24- Garnish
To provide (a food) with something that adds flavor,
decorative color, etc.

13. 25- Main course
The main course is the featured or primary dish in a
meal consisting of several courses. It usually follows
the entrée ("entry") course.
26- Meal
An occasion when food is eaten, or the food that is
eaten on such an occasion.

14. 27- Medium rare
Meat that is medium rare is cooked lightly so that the
inside is still red but warm.
28- On the side
Served on another plate, or on the side of the plate.

15. 29- Overdone
cooked too long or too much: The roast was overdone.
I dislike overdone steak.
30- Senior’s discount
one who is no longer employed: Senior citizens get a
discount.

16. 31- Set meal
a complete meal in a restaurant or café for a stated
price with a limited number of options to choose from
for each course; it is usually cheaper than ordering
dishes individually from the à la carte menu.
32- Take out

17. 33- Tip
Is a sum of money customarily given by a client or
customer to certain service sector workers for the
service they have performed, in addition to the basic
price of the service.
34- Server
One that serves food or drink.

18. 35- Side dish
A side dish, sometimes referred to as a side order,
side item, or simply a side, is a food item that
accompanies the entrée or main course at a meal.
