2. First you must gather your supplies
Hunting license, State Duck Stamp, and Federal Duck Stamp
Gun and proper ammunition
Proper clothing for camouflage and weather
Optional: Propane heaters for added warmth
Boat to hunt from the water, or duck blind to hunt from land.
Hunting guide for bag limits and legal birds to kill
3. Proper clothing for camouflage and
weather.
Duck hunting takes place in the late
fall/ early winter. So warm clothes are
imperative. Gloves, toboggan, and
insulated underwear, to name a few.
Ducks have excellent eye sight so
camouflage choice is imperative. (The
bibs shown here offer good
camouflage along with insulation for
warmth.)
Can be purchased at stores that sell
hunting gear such as Cabela’s or
Dunham’s
5. Hunting License & Duck
Stamps
Your hunting license can be
purchased through a local business
that provides hunting licenses, or by
visiting your states Division of Natural
Resources Website.
State Duck stamps can be purchased
the same way as your hunting license
and at the same time, should you so
choose. (However, you must call the
1-800 number on your hunting license
and take a survey to receive a 10-digit
number before you can legally hunt
water fowl)
Federal Duck stamps are available at
your local United States Post Office.
(To the right is a picture of a Federal
Duck Stamp. You must sign the Stamp
in the stamp area)

6. Proper Gun and Ammunition
The gun of choice would be a 12-
gauge shot gun
Ammunition of choice is 12-gauge
steel shot. (Can be purchased at any
store that sells guns or ammunition.)
7. Needs for hunting from water or land.
All though hunting from the water is
the best option, it is the most
expensive. You must have:
A boat
Boating license
Proper lighting
Hunting from land is an excellent
option that costs a great deal less.
The only downfall is if you are
hunting over water, it is difficult to
retrieve your duck unless you have a
hunting dog or kayak.
The blind shown below can provide
added camouflage.
8. Hunting Regulations & Bag
Limits
Duck hunting regulations include:
Hunting dates
Daylight hour rules
Knowing the bag limit (number of
ducks you can take in one day)
Legal breeds of ducks to take
How many male and female ducks
you can take each day.
These regulations are for Ohio
