2. Types of Notifications
Serious Incidents
You must notify the Regulatory Authority within 24hours of becoming aware of a serious incident (section 174(2)(a) and Regulation
176 (2)(a).
• The Death of a child
• Any incident involving a serious injury or trauma to a child while being educated and cared for
A reasonable person would consider required urgent medical attention from a registered practitioner.
The child attend or ought reasonably to have attended a hospital e.g. broken limb
Any incident involving serious illness of a child where the child attended or ought reasonably attended a hospital e.g. severe
asthma, seizure, anaphylaxis
• Any emergency for which emergency services attended- note this means an incident, situation or event where there is imminent or
severe risk to health safety or wellbeing of a person. Not an incident where emergency services attended as a precaution
• A child appears to be missing or cannot be accounted for at the service
• A child appears to have been taken or removed from the service in a manner that contravenes the National Regulations
• A child is mistakenly locked in or locked out of the service premises or any part of the premises
• Offence to fail to notify National Law – Penalty $4000 individual. $20,000 per others
3. Types of Notifications
Complaints
You must notify the Regulatory Authority within 24hours of any compliant alleging that a serious incident has occurred while the child
is educated and cared for or complaints alleging that the Law has been contravened (section 174(2)(b))
Any Circumstance that poses a risk to the health, safety or wellbeing of a child
You must notify the Regulatory Authority within 7days of becoming aware of a circumstance arising at the service that poses a risk to
the health, safety and wellbeing of a child (Regulation 175 (2)( c) and Regulation 176 (2) ( c)
Physical and Sexual Abuse
Any incident where you reasonably believe that physical and/or sexual abuse of a child has occurred or is occurring at the service
Any allegation that sexual or physical abuse of a child has occurred or is occurring at the service
4. Camp Australia Process
To Ensure we meet the Regulatory Requirements Camp
Australia has put in place the following process
1. Regional Manager to notify Ops Admin and GM with in 4hrs of
Complaint or Incident occurring that a notification will be
made.
2. RM to work with the GM to complete all required paperwork
and submit within 12hrs of being notified to Ops Admin
3. This will be forwarded on to the National Compliance Manager
for review and approval to submit
Once submitted the document will be on OCW for future
reference under the service name

7. Writing the notification
This becomes your number 1 priority
1. Have the correct template
2. Make sure you attach incident reports if needed
3. Dates, times, names and DOB are accurate
4. Keep it simple- just the facts
5. Proof-read prior to sending
6. Sign the document
8. Any Other Reporting required
State Specific reporting requirements
Mandatory Reporting – Child Protection
• Educators in SA, ACT and NSW are mandated reporters and need to make additional notifications on a child wellbeing to the
state child protection body
• VIC and QLD are mandatory reporters and have an obligation to report to child protection in relation to their employment
• VIC – have an obligation to report sexual abuse of children to SOCIT
Ombudsman Reporting – Reportable Conduct
• In VIC, NSW and ACT any conduct an employee has that results in concerns with their interactions with children need to be
reported to the Ombudsman for the State or Territory.
