1. At least 15 children
have died in South
Sudan from a botched
attempt to immunize
them against measles,
officials say.
They were vaccinated
with the same
unsterilized syringe, and
the vaccine was not
stored properly, accord-
ing to an investigation
results in deaths.
As a result, the immuni-
zation campaign caused
severe infection and sep-
sis. The team administer-
ing the vaccinations was
"neither qualified nor
trained" to do so, the
health minister said.
About 300 people were
vaccinated during the
campaign in the Kapoeta
region, including 32 other
children who fell ill, but
survived, Riek Gai Kok
added.
Measles outbreaks in the
country are a key target of
the United Nations chil-
dren's fund (Unicef),
which is aiming to vacci-
nate 1.2 million children
this year.
But a report from the As-
sociated Press said that in
this case, children as
young as 12 were admin-
istering the vaccine to
others.
Sepsis is a potentially
deadly immune response
triggered by an infection
which spreads quickly in
the body. It can lead to
multiple organ failure
and death.
South Sudan declared
independence in 2011,
but has struggled to
maintain basic services -
including healthcare -
after a civil war erupted
in 2013.

Drug Administration approved the
first generic version of Truvada
(Emtricitabine and Tenofovir
Disoproxil Fumarate) Tablets,
200 mg/300 mg .For treatment in
combination with other antiretrovi-
ral agents for the treatment of HIV-
1 infection in adults and pediatric
patients weighing at least 17 kg.
On June 7, 2017, the Food and Drug
Administration approved a new
Norvir (ritonavir) oral powder
formulation, 100 mg packet. This
approval provides for the use of
Norvir (ritonavir) oral powder (only
for >100 mg dose increments) in
combination with other antiretrovi-
ral agents for the treatment of pedi-
atric patients with HIV-1 infection.

tellite instability-high (MSI-H) or
mismatch repair deficient
(dMMR).
On May 23,2017 ,The U.S. Food and
Drug Administration granted accel-
erated approval to a treatment for
patients whose cancers have a spe-
cific genetic feature (biomarker).
This is the first time the agency has
approved a cancer treatment based
on a common biomarker rather
than the location in the body where
the tumor originated.

3. In China, researchers have tested
tilapia skin on rodents to study its
healing properties, but scientists in
Brazil say their trials are the first on
humans.
In medical trials, the alternative
therapy has been used on at least 56
patients to treat second- and third-
degree burns.
Fish Skin Heals Burns
The World Health Organization
estimates that around 265,000 peo-
ple die every year from burn inju-
ries.
Dr. Edmar Maciel is currently lead-
ing a study at José Frota Institute in
Fortaleza, Brazil, that uses tilapia
skin to improve the burn healing
process.
Scientists at the Federal University
of Ceara in northern Brazil have
found that Tilapia fish skin has
moisture, collagen and disease
resistance at levels comparable to
human skin, and can aid in healing.
The tilapia skin is applied directly
onto the burned area and covered
with a bandage, without the need
for any cream. After about 10 days,
doctors remove the bandage. The
tilapia skin, which has dried out
and loosened from the burn, can be
peeled away.
