My name is Michael Meares. I am a senior software engineer at the Q-Track Corporation and
supervised Jason Renner during his internship here. Q-Track is a small business in
Huntsville, Alabama that creates software and equipment for real-time tracking of people and
assets. We are a dynamic, fast paced environment that demands quality and dedication from
our employees, including interns. Our former interns have been published in peer reviewed
literature, hold patents, and have been accepted at a number of prestigious graduate programs.
Several have gone on to work for Fortune 500 software companies such as Google and SAIC.
Jason Renner approached Q-Track on his own initiative in order to obtain a summer
internship immediately after his sophomore year in college. Our team challenged Jason to
learn the C# programming language prior to accepting him as an official intern. In response,
Jason demonstrated the commitment to learning that is essential to success in the tech
industry. In the week before his internship began, Jason taught himself the C# programming
language and the fundamentals of the .NET Framework. Over the course of his time at Q-
Track, he made constant and independent effort to learn unfamiliar concepts he encountered
on the job, notably the object oriented paradigm, common design patterns, and even how to
use version control.
During his internship, Jason worked with the software team to design and implement a multi-
tiered software system for tracking people and assets. Jason contributed production quality
code for the business and data access layers. He also wrote unit tests and helped Q-Track
automate its software testing. Jason's work will be included in Q-Track's future software
releases. He is a diligent worker, and is capable of working independently or as part of a team.
Jason is a smart young man with a passion for technology. I have confidence that he will excel
in any professional or academic endeavor, if given the opportunity.
