 Started out as predominantly selling only outside
apparel/gear
 Made a switch into the retail segment of all clothing in
around 1982-83
 Is mostly known for their preppy style clothing for
men and women
 Has a branch store of Aerie – which is an all female
store that sells intimates & other apparel
 American Eagle and Aerie compete in the retail
industry
 There are many challenges that are being faced in the
retail segment today
 Shoplifting
 Rise in prices
 The economy
 Other companies expanding
 Product(s): the products vary considerably but just to
name their best sellers
 Denim
 Polo’s
 Hoodie’s
 Place: all around the United States but has expanded
Internationally
 Price: varies considerably depending on the item, the
clothing line ranges from affordable to a bit expensive
 Promotion: Television ads, social media, online, and
very few print ads
 Like mentioned- started out as only outdoor apparel
company, generally pushed towards middle-class
males and was fairly price-friendly
 Made a switch into the full clothing line geared
towards men and women, fashionable but affordable
 Now as the economy has shifted, prices have been
raised fairly high
 Still prides itself on fashion-forward but the prices
have become much more of a luxury retail store
 Target audience: 15-25 year old males and females
