James Rhys Edwards received his doctorate in Ethnomusicology from UCLA in 2015 with a dissertation on the aesthetics and politics of commercial theater in Japan's southernmost prefecture of Okinawa (http://escholarship.org/uc/item/9r74h4t8). His academic interests include philosophical materialism and critical theory, political economy and ecology, and experimental music and noise. Personal interests include sound-making, recording, photography, and his dog Tulip.
