2. The Idea
This film is going to take place over about six 10 minute films, 1 episode being released
online each week.
Matt, 17, wakes up in the year 2036, but everything is exactly the same as it was in
2013. Nothing is happening, nobody is around. It is very dull, with grey skies. He spends
weeks looking for other people, eventually he finds someone else (Emma).
Matt discovers that Emma is the only sick survivor. Together, they try to figure out what
happened. In their travels they find other people that survived, they all find it very
distressing that Emma is sick, and keep attempting to attack her. Matt and Emma have
to move between hotels, houses and supermarkets. Everywhere they go they find
different clues to what happened.
3. Emma had a chest infection but she was the only sick person to survive the gassing.
Because Emma had a heart defect she was on lots of medication to help her survive, so
she just about survived the apocalypse.
Before they find out how the apocalypse happened, Emma had a heart attack, this kills
her, as she no longer has access to hospitals or the right medication to help her.
Matt eventually finds out that the reason behind this apocalypse is a government came
up with an idea to get rid of all diseases and infections in the world. ‘Project: Novum
Satus’ involved pumping gases into the air to kill off every sign of disease, but this did
mean that the government officials that deployed the gas producing planes also died.
4. The Setting
The short films will be filmed around the west midlands, starting in Birmingham city
centre, and moving out to more rural areas such as Shrewsbury. To film in the city centre
I will have to be filming very early in the morning to avoid people and traffic. Filming in
rural areas makes it easier to film without interruptions such as people, cars or loud
noises.
5. Research
I found a post online that stated realistic ideas about what would most likely happen in
the rare chance of an apocalypse. It gives likely statistics on how long necessities such
as food and drink will last, and suggested how long someone might live.
The name of the film – Novum Satus – is Latin for ‘A new start’.
