Evaluation Question 7:Looking back
at your preliminary task, what do
you feel you have learnt in the
progression from It to the full
product?
By Jake Lawson
2.
What brief wereyou working to in the
preliminary exercise and the main task?
Preliminary exercise-Continuity task: This involving filming and
editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down
in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then
exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task should
demonstrate match on action, shot reverse shot and the 180 degree
rule.
Main Task- 2 minute start to our film: The titles and opening of a
new fiction film. to last a maximum of two minutes.
3.
How have youused the things you have learnt
in your preliminary task in your 2 minute
start to a film?
We learnt several techniques during the making of our preliminary task including
the main features of the 180-degree rule, and why not to cross it and possible
reasons why it may be broken. During the clips of dialogue we used shot reverse
shot to demonstrate conversation between specific characters. As well as this, we
learnt how to perform match on action and the benefits of using this technique for
both ourselves and the viewers. We used this when sitting down and opening a
door to keep continuity and to have more natural changes of angles.
We used all these techniques during our 2 minute film to improve the overall
quality of the film. We used the shot reverse shot on a few occasions to show the
conversation taking place as well as to capture the reactions of the characters.
Also, the understanding of the 180 degree line allowed us to remain continuity and
prevent any confusion that the audience may encounter. Furthermore, our group
learnt the importance of planning in advance and gathering research to prevent
time-consuming problems that we could have encountered.
4.
What have yougot better at?
Since our preliminary task, we have improved on our editing in adobe premier
pro. This is because none of our group had any experience with this particular
application. As a result, we gained valuable experience from the previous task
and learnt even more editing techniques as well as becoming more efficient
in the simpler tasks that we may have found challenging at the start of the
process.
Another improvement, we have made as a group, would be the understanding
of different techniques in production of films such as mise en scene and
cinematography. As a result, we can implement certain meanings in our film
as well as portraying characters in specific ways to represent them in a way
that we want to.
Despite learning many new techniques, we haven't changed anything but only
added new techniques that we have learnt throughout the process.
