Chimpanzee

  By Jack Neylon
What is the Chimpanzee?
• Chimpanzees are members of the Hominidae family,
along with gorillas, humans, and orangutans.
• Chimpanzees split from human evolution about 6
  million years ago.
• The chimpanzee species are the closest living
relatives to humans, all being members of the
  Hominini tribe.
Where does it live?
• The Chimpanzees live in large communities in
the tropical forests of Africa high up in the
canopies The communities can be from
anything from 12 to 150 apes.
Why is the chimpanzee endangered?
• The chimpanzees endangered due to habitat
loss of farmland, agriculture, also they are
hunted by humans for food even though it is
illegal and are eaten by leopards.
The chimpanzee food chain
• Chimpanzees eat mainly fruits but they will also eat
nuts, ants, flowers, tree bark, and honey. They will eat
birds too if they could catch them.
• Humans eat chimpanzees pie in some areas of the
world, though this is illegal. Leopards sometimes eat
chimpanzees when they (very rarely) get a chance.
This is why chimpanzees sleep in nests up in
  canopies.
How is it protected?
• Since the chimpanzees are endangered, they
are being protected. There are now a lot of
wildlife parks that protect them and so they
can breed. Occasionally they’re sent back to
the wild. Plus there are some charities to raise
money so they can help stop poachers and give
  chimpanzees a new habitat.
