Preface
Dear Reader, you are holding 1400 combinations in your hand. If you review
them, your approach to tactics and your combinational skills will surely
develop. You can pick up chess from a trainer or all by yourself. A good
teacher tells his students about the essence, the strategy and the inner lines of
force of chess. Combinations, however, can be learned from books, too. Its
method is to solve chess combinations. The main motives can be acquired that
way. This book deals with the main motives of tactics. Each section contains
elementary and advanced level studies. This masterpiece is easy to use. If the
reader has 5 minutes, he will solve one riddle. If he has 60 minutes, he will
go through a dozen. And if he wants to make real progress, then let him solve
a whole section.
The writer- Jozsef Pinter -is one of the most acknowledged grandmas
ters in Hungary. Silver medalist at the Chess Olympiad, champion of Hungary
several times, captain of the national team, one of the main trainers at the
Central School of Chess. He has written a lot of books. As a chess player, he
is well-known for his "healthy" style of playing. Hungarian chessplayers say
that if you want to become a strong player, then you will have to attend
Pinter's classes. You can now listen to him, at least for the duration of 1400

Vorwort
Der Leser halt 1400 auserlesene Kombinationen in Handen. Wenn er sie lost,
entwickeln sich sein taktischer Slickwinkel und seine Kombinationsfahigkeit
betimmt sehr. Schach kann man sowohl vom Trainer als auch als Autodidakt
lemen. Der gute Trainer lehrt den Schlilem das Wesen des Schachspiels, seine
inneren Zusammenhange und seine Strategie. Kombinationsfahigkeit kann
man jedoch auch von einem Such erlemen. Eine Methode dazu kann das
regelmaf3ige Losen von Kombinationsratseln sein. Dadurch kann man die
Hauptmotive gut kennenlemen. Dieses Such gruppiert die Kombinationen
anhand der wichtigsten Motive. In jedem Kapitel werden einfache wie auch
fortgeschrittene Kombinationen vorgestellt. Dieses Kombinationslehrbuch ist
sehr einfach zu benutzen. Schon in fUnfMinuten kann ein Ratsel gelost wer
den, wenn man sogar eine ganze Stunde hat, lost man eine Menge davon.
