Thomas Reardon conceived of and began work on Internet Explorer in 1994 while working on Windows 95 at Microsoft. Internet Explorer was first released on August 16, 1995 as part of the Plus! addon for Windows 95. It was initially available for Windows, Mac OS X, Solaris OS and HP-UX and in 95 languages. Over time, Internet Explorer gained market share but has declined in recent years from 23% in 2011 to 10% in 2014 as other browsers like Chrome have increased in popularity.
