Scientist, Operations Director and now Horticultural Entrepreneur! From the corporate world there
is a wide-range of business and commercial experience gained in the life-science sector. This
experience is complemented by a background in biomedical research at two leading academic
institutions and an in-depth knowledge of antibacterial drug discovery and development.
Horticulture was a hobby, it is now my vocation.
Experience
Eat Your Own Garden, Oxford, UK. 2014 to present
A sole trader business established late in 2014 with the intention of providing specialist
gardening services focused on fruit, vegetables and herbs.
The sole trader (myself). Established the idea, set-up the infrastructure and provider
of all the technical skills.
Biota Europe Ltd, Oxford, UK. 2000 to 2014
An antibacterial drug discovery and development business that was a subsidiary of Biota
Pharmaceuticals, a global anti-infectives pharmaceutical company.
Operations Director. A role that combined scientific and operations management.
• Scientific management. Played a key role in the scientific direction of two projects
aimed at producing novel antibacterial drugs targeting bacterial cell division and DNA
supercoiling. Co-inventor on associated patents and co-author on scientific
publications.
• Operations management. Responsible for the business unit’s health and safety
management, facilities management, IT and Information Systems, project and CRO
management.
R&D Systems Europe Ltd, Abingdon, UK. 1989 to 2000
A multi-million dollar global business providing the tools for cell biology research.
Scientist to Product Development Manager. Key achievements:
• Introduced a major new product line
• Maintained an existing multi-million dollar product line
• Introduced innovative cell culture technologies.

Senior Research Technician. Responsible for the tissue culture facilities in the
Immunology team and teaching technical support.
