This case study highlights how ITRI Innovation helped a musical instrument importer and retailer to develop effective RoHS compliance procedures and through RoHS compliance testing was able to help them ensure that all the products they offered for sale complied with RoHS regulations.

An importer and retailer of musical
instruments

3. The challenge
 The client was being questioned by the
National Measurement Office (NMO)
about their policies and procedures to
ensure RoHS compliance

4. The problem
 No previous experience of RoHS
and limited time to respond to the
NMO with a policy statement

5. The Solution
 We ran a 1-Day training session for key staff on
the requirements of RoHS. We looked
specifically at the impact on their repair &
rework stations, identifying potential RoHS
breaches. We provided advice on necessary
processes & procedures for their policy
statement.

6. The Solution
 We carried out XRF screening to identify
which parts were compliant and which
were not compliant. On the basis of this
information, we provided specific
guidance on actions to be taken to ensure
future compliance.

7. The Outcome
 The full range of products for sale (both
new and refurbished were required) are
fully RoHS compliant.
 The retailer now has procedures in place
and staff with a good understanding of
RoHS to ensure ongoing compliance
