6. Living on the Edge of Eternity
Titus 2:11-14
God is training us by His grace to live forever.
The Thing Before the First Thing
7. 1. We should maintain the perspective
of a “trainee” (11).
All of life is training, by grace, to live forever.
8. 2. We should intentionally cultivate
godly character.
• Things we renounce
– Ungodliness
– Worldly passions
• The cravings of sinful man (lust of the flesh)
• The lust of the eyes
• The boasting of what he has & does (“the boastful
pride of life”)
9. 2. We should intentionally cultivate
godly character.
• Character we cultivate
– Self-control
– Righteousness
– Godliness
10. 3. We must keep our lives firmly
anchored in the “cross” and the
“crown”.
• In the Crown—in the hope of His glorious
return
• In the Cross—what Jesus has done for us
12. 3. We must keep our lives firmly
anchored in the “cross” and the
“crown”.
• Signs your anchor is loose
– Losing sensitivity to His presence
– Indifference to the things of God
– Misplaced confidence
– Not seeking the Lord in times of decision or crisis
– Worldliness—living by the values of this age
13. 3. We must keep our lives firmly
anchored in the “cross” and the
“crown”.
• Staying anchored
– Watch your life, affections, habits carefully.
– Stay in the Word.
– Be consistent in worship, personal and corporate.
– Reflect often on both Cross & Crown, especially as
the church observes baptism & Lord’s Supper.
14. CONCLUSION
• All of life is training, by grace, to live forever.
• Make the most of it by cultivating self-control,
righteousness, and godliness.
• The danger is not in adversity, it is in failing to
be anchored in the Cross & the Crown.
