2. In the 1950s, offices were efficient, utilitarian
and, to our modern dispositions, unimaginative.
Having seen in the birth of modernism, the
1960s sparked a move towards minimalist
design and ergonomic awareness.
The 1970s saw in bold colour schemes and in
the 1980s, workspaces became high-tech with
the introduction of the first personal computer in
1981 - the IBM 5150. Offices were as bold and
futuristic as people's hairstyles until the 1990s
when functionality took precedent over
aesthetics and the concept of 'hot desking' was
introduced.
3. Since the 1990s, we've seen the
emergence of ping-pong tables,
slides and park benches.
There are also a growing number
of co-working spaces furnished
with plenty of reclaimed wood,
hanging light bulbs and open
ceilings. It's safe to say, there's
something for everyone.
4. 1. Innocent Fruit Towers
The Innocent Smoothies office in Kensal
Rise is reminiscent of a country fair; it's
complete with synthetic grass, park
benches and a ping pong table!
The building has been made into a big,
open, bright office having removed some of
the floor space above. Their employees are
also fortunate enough to get free breakfast
and an unlimited supply of smoothies.
5. No surprises that Google have a pretty
awesome office, we'd be disappointed if
they didn't, right?
The 40,000 sq ft space underwent a big
makeover in 2010. The design is based
on the theme 'Brighton Beach'. Google
are planning to relocate to a completely
new 2.4 acre complex near King's Cross
at some point this year.

6. 3. Lloyd’s of London
This building on Lime Street was completed
in 1986 after 8 years of construction. It was
designed by famous architect Richard
Rogers best known for his work on the
Pompidou Centre in Paris and the
Millennium Dome.
The Natural light floods into the 60-metre
high atrium of the Lloyd’s building via a huge
barrel-vaulted glass roof.
7. 4. Macquarie
In 2011, the Macquarie group London
office redesign was completed. The
atrium is full of light and the red and
white steel staircases are exquisite.
Areas of privacy are characterised by
traditional pinstripe lines, but in the more
open areas, bold pieces of furniture
exude a sense of prestige.
The staircase is most certainly the focal
point of the office which represents the
interconnectedness of the company.
8. 5. Mother London
The block was once a biscuit warehouse but
has since been re-purposed into a spectacular
office space for the advertising agency Mother.
The architects designed everything around
one big 250 ft concrete table which was
inspired by the 1923 race track on the roof of
the Fiat Lingotto factory in Turin. Concrete is
used liberally throughout but bright and vibrant
colours are also used to characterise the
creative atmosphere.
9. When you cross the threshold of the Mind Candy
office you are welcomed into a fun-filled
environment which is evocative of their hit online
game, Moshi Monsters.
If you get a chance to play ping pong, you'll be
playing it next to a Moshi-fabricated dress made
for London Fashion Week. 200 people work in the
office with perks including a Friday happy hour
called Beer o'clock, a chef who comes in monthly
to cook lunches, ping pong matches, and a slide.

10. 7. Splunk
Splunk’s office in Paddington is
crammed with quirky features
including custom graffiti, a Pullman
carriage which is used for meetings and
a tardis-style demo room where the
team demonstrate their products to
clients.
The interior design draws from the
theme of travel because of its locality
next to the station.
11. Architects were faced with a 150-year-old, 5
storey brick building when they were set with
the task of transforming the space into the
Bold Rocket office.
They kept true to the cultural history of the
area by using solid materials sourced within a
100-mile radius. Joinery details were left
exposed to disclose some of the construction
methods.

12. 9. Red Bull
The interior of the Red Bull Headquarters in
Soho is supposed to be an adrenalin-pumping,
excitement provoking environment
which mirrors hyperactivity brought about by
drinking their highly caffeinated drink.
The rooftop reception lobby welcomes visitors
with a view overlooking the West End but the
fun doesn't end here as inside you'll find ping
pong table meeting rooms, floating staircases
and a carbon slide in the centre of the office.
13. 10. Nike
Nike’s UK headquarters were redesigned by Rosie
Lee in 2013. Themed zones lead the way through
a history of the brand using designated
colours, hand-painted illustrations and text
graphics.
The designers made use of campaign props from
the Nike archive and used reclaimed basketball
court wood for some of the furniture. "Nike wanted
to utilise its rich brand and product heritage to
bring to life the company's London headquarters,"
said Stephen Bates of Rosie Lee.
14. 11. The Engine Group
Communications group Engine had their
offices designed by Јump Studios. The 3.5m
quirky refurb has been described to look
like something from the Big Brother House and
includes a room made entirely of cork.
The 'Innovation Lab' has a number of
interesting elements such as tiered seating,
casual seating spaces, and spinning
‘Waltzers’ for easy-going interactions.
