Helen Stubbings has designed her third collection, Primrose Sands, for Red Rooster Fabrics.
Primrose Sands is the name of a small seaside village in Tasmania, an Island state at the very
bottom of Australia near Helen’s home. Helen tells us, “The collection started from my wallpaper
photograph at my friends’ beach shack and was the inspiration for the main geometric print of rosettes.
My memories of good times at the beach with my girls and our friends…the soft minty greens, romantic
pinks, and silver grays with a pop of raspberry signified relaxation, peace, freedom, and perhaps a bit of
romance…at the seaside in an Australian summer…bubbles, summer fruit, laughter, and sunshine…”
Although the main geometric was inspired by a wallpaper pattern, the bright, bold colors were inspired
by popular 1980s colors…pinks, reds, teals, and grays. Some of her designs are inspired by the
architectural motifs she photographs and she always has her camera at hand!
Helen’s newest collection delivers all the fun of the 1980s without the exaggerated styles (think
shoulder pads, mini skirts, spandex, and big hair)! In addition to the wallpaper geometric, there’s a pink,
red, teal and gray stripe, a floral lace, dainty scrolls, and a leaf texture on a woven ground. Visualize wide,
sassy borders from the geos for large quilts, fussy cut rosettes for appliquéd posies on wall hangings,
jackets and shirts for summertime and cruise wear, and fun beach and grocery totes. These prints would
also make an adorable nursery ensemble for the modern baby girl!

Assemble a few beach-themed display items like pink flip-flops and an inexpensive pair of bright-
rimmed sunglasses to highlight the name of this fun collection. Display rolled fat quarters in colorful beach
pails. Add the teal Splash 45mm rotary cutter by Olfa, and a few quilt themed “good summer reads” by
authors like Jennifer Chiaverini, Sandra Dallas, Earlene Fowler, and Emilie Richards. Promote some of your
patterns for shirts, jackets, and totes. Indygo Junction has a very nice selection of women’s clothing patterns
and tote bags. Advertise a placemat class for beginners - the designs in the Primrose Sands collection give you
lots of options for mixing and matching prints for placemats and coordinating napkins.
