gain basic knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Indesign and Photoshop, whilst also improving my
presentational skills and ability to work with a deadline. Overall, I gained a 2:1 in both years.
Recent modules in third year have improved my writing and research skills, with modules

4. Fresher Publishing
January 2014 – Present
My University have launched their own publishing company, and I
was an editor for the first published book – an anthology of
student’s work. My tasks included editing pieces for the literary
genre, before being promoted to senior copy editor and putting the
whole book together and editing the layout. A piece of my own
work was published in the anthology, too.
Salariya Book Company
September 2013
I spent two weeks interning at a children's book publishers
located in Brighton. I was given full rein of page layouts for three
different books, including a travel puzzle book and a history
book, as well as editorial experience. I learnt a lot about the
publishing industry, whilst also gaining invaluable skills in
Photoshop and Indesign.
JB-PR
July 2013
I spent two weeks doing work experience with JB-PR, a PR company located in
Brighton. Jobs included researching/writing their celebrity column, writing
blogs, keeping social media up to date, researching journalists and contacting
companies. The experience helped to develop my communication skills, whilst
also giving me the opportunity to write under quick deadlines.
5. Swiss Cottage Restaurant, Shoreham-By-Sea
June 2012 – September 2013
My work tasks included serving customers and tending to
the bar and stock. Due to the busy environment I had to
prioritise these responsibilities and multi-task at a quick-
pace. By serving customers I gained valuable
communication skills, and being part of a close-knit team
allowed me to gain more experience with teamwork.
WH Smith, Shoreham-By-Sea
January – September 2011
While operating tills and managing stock, I also assisted in
the changeover from Sussex Stationers to WH Smiths. This
allowed me to improve my organisational skills and
analytical thinking. This job helped me to enhance my
independent thinking and problem solving skills.
Worthing Leisure, Worthing
June 2010 – January 2011
This job was very fast-paced and structured. I was able to improve my
attention to detail as I helped set up Wedding Receptions and
waitressed for them. For this job I had to be organised and use my
initiative while providing a service.
6. Healthy living is something very important to me. Ask anyone who knows me and they’ll tell you that
I am constantly looking up new healthy foods to try (current favourites at the moment have to be
bulgur wheat and cacao nibs!) I also keep focused on keeping fit by cycling and going to the gym
regularly. I took part in British Heart Foundation London to Brighton Bike Ride 2013, and have just
applied for Brighton Marathon 2015. Help!
I believe my work experience in publishing and PR will enable me to be a great copywriter for your
team. The job application states that you need someone with an awareness of social media and an
ability to create good attention for the brand, and I feel that my experience in PR will allow me to do
this stupendously. My time there was spent liaising with clients and creating blog content, which I see
is a big responsibility for this role. You also say that you need someone to expand the brand and
produce engaging content. My time at Salariya Book Company was a great example of this, as I was
allowed to create a children’s book that fit the artist’s aesthetic.
My degree at University represents what I can bring to this role even more. The degree was media
based, meaning that I gained experience with all walks of media life. I have written scripts, I have
created advertisements, I know how to write a good blog post, and writing a campaign is a breeze. I
also have skills in Photoshop and Indesign.
As for my personality, I am extremely hard-working. If you were to contact my old employers I am
sure they would mention my dedication to everything I do. I always have a smile on my face, and a
new joke to try on my friends. My favourite Graze snack has to be the chocolate orange, which I think
says a lot about my personality. I am sweet, but with that extra zing.
