Features of POB                     Part-1


• Pesticide means any substance or mixture of
  substances used for controlling, directly or
  indirectly any plant or animal pests

• Pesticides to be registered before import,
  manufacture, formulate and marketing / sale

• Application in format "Form 1" to be
  submitted for registration

• On receipt of an application, the authority
  may register a pesticide by the name (Brand)
  indicate in the application
Features of POB                      Part-1




• On satisfactory test report as per the POB
  A Certificate of Registration "Form 2”
  will issue

• The registration of a brand shall be effective
  for 3 year from the year of registration.

• Renewal of Registration has to apply through
  format "Form 3”

• A Certificate of renewal of registration of
  pesticides in "Form 4" will issue

• Government may cancel the registration
  any time.

• After obtaining a licence import,
  manufacture, formulate and sale of
  registered pesticides may start.

• Pesticide Technical Advisory Committee
  to advise on technical matters related to
  pesticides.

POB strengthened on advertisement and promotion on the
basis of International Code of Conduct

Criteria for advertisement and penalties for violations in
pesticide rules in POB

Responsibilities of the pesticide industry for monitoring
residue on crops and environment before & after marketing of
pesticides in POB


Pesticides in attractive containers should be stopped by
pesticide rules to avoid reuse

The pesticide Inspectors should be given authority to
undertake on spot measure to unlawful practices
Recommendations
•   Toxicologist or chemical analyst should be included as
    member of PTAC

•   BCPA should play active role in screening the pesticides
    applied for registration considering environment


•   Price of pesticides should be reduced


•   Use of banned, smuggled and adulterated pesticides
    should be prohibited by strengthening enforcement
    mechanisms

•   Letter of Authorization from the respective pesticide
    company to distributor and retailers for healthy
    business environment
Recommendations

•   Farmers should be encouraged to use environmental
    friendly pesticides

•   Farmers should encourage to adopt organic farming
    to minimize the use of chemical pesticides

•   To improve the use of chemical pesticides by
    introducing relatively low-toxic formulation

•   Alternatives of pesticides should bring to the notice of
    farmers through mass media
Recommendations

• To avoid pesticide poisoning, pesticide applicators
  using protective clothing and equipment



• PICTOGRAMS to be introduce to the packet and
  bottle labels, leaflets & posters by pesticide
  company to promote Pre/Post safety measures
  for the Farmers

  introduced to protect environmental hazard
  and re-use of the containers


• Nationwide training programs on the safe use and
  handling of pesticides by the companies as well as

• It is important to consolidate the various agencies

GOB & Pesticide Company should Providing regular
advisory service to the farmers and training on safe
use and handling of pesticides on priority


The seminar / symposium / or discussion meetings at
the farmers, Trade, External Influencers level to make
them aware of

     – Use pesticides properly & safely
     – Avoid human poisoning
     – Avoid environmental pollution

  • 12. Features of POB Part-1 • Pesticide means any substance or mixture of substances used for controlling, directly or indirectly any plant or animal pests • Pesticides to be registered before import, manufacture, formulate and marketing / sale • Application in format "Form 1" to be submitted for registration • On receipt of an application, the authority may register a pesticide by the name (Brand) indicate in the application
  • 13. Features of POB Part-1 • On satisfactory test report as per the POB A Certificate of Registration "Form 2” will issue • The registration of a brand shall be effective for 3 year from the year of registration. • Renewal of Registration has to apply through format "Form 3” • A Certificate of renewal of registration of pesticides in "Form 4" will issue
  • 14. Features of POB Part-1 • Government may cancel the registration any time. • After obtaining a licence import, manufacture, formulate and sale of registered pesticides may start. • Pesticide Technical Advisory Committee to advise on technical matters related to pesticides.
