1. E
very once in a while,
one needs to escape
from the mad clutter
of cities, and breathe. It helps
if your escape route takes
you through apple orchards,
alpine meadows and deodar
forests. A view of the snow-
capped Himalaya from your
room is a big plus. These
might seem like tall orders,
but Koti Resorts in Mashobra,
Himachal Pradesh, checks all
these boxes.
Nestled on a foothill up
the Mashobra-Naldehra road
at a height of 6,600 feet, the
resort is a 30-minute drive
from Shimla. The 100-year-
old Naldehra Golf Course
is just 10 minutes away.
Designed like a Swiss chalet,
the resort has 54 rooms—
standard, deluxe, premium
and suites—perched around a
central lawn. The resort was
built in 1992 and has been
refurbished recently; there’s a
spa, a solar-heated swimming
pool and even a small play
area for children. However,
the resort’s USP is the view,
according to Yatendra Chand,
the managing director. And
we have to agree.
Every room offers splendid
views of the mountains and
the distant snow-capped
peaks. The premium rooms
are larger and offer the
best views; they come with
a jacuzzi, LCD TV and
other modern amenities.
The suites on the first floor
have balconies that offer
unobstructed mountain views,
while the ones on the ground
floor open out to pretty
little gardens.
At Koti Resorts, you can
either choose to spend your
days lazing about or curling
up with a book and a steaming
cup of masala chai; or you
could make it activity-filled
by trekking to villages in the
vicinity, rafting and camping.
Or head to Mall Road in
Shimla if all this tranquility is
disquieting. Evenings are for
bonfires, barbecue, whisky
and conversations by the
lawn. Destination weddings
and corporate events are also
hosted here. The multi-
cuisine restaurant whips up
tasty Indian, Chinese and
Continental food, while the
main draw is, of course, local
Himachali fare.
Make sure you wake up
early to catch the first rays of
the morning sun. And follow
it up with a walk through the
pine forests and breakfast at
the restaurant’s sun deck.
