WHY DID YOU CHOOSE CITY AND
REGIONAL PLANNING?
I came to Ohio State undecided,
but I knew that I would find the
major that I loved, and refused to
settle for a major that I thought
I could eventually like. City and
Regional Planning fit my criteria
and is a program where I can
continually develop regardless
of where I live in the future.
My passions may change the
course of how I use my planning
degree, but I am even more
confident now that I have the
skills required to pursue those
passions.
DESCRIBE YOUR STUDIO
EXPERIENCES.
One studio that I worked on was
a huge mega site in Midwest
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE
PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS WHO
ARE INTERESTED IN CITY AND
REGIONAL PLANNING?
To the prospective students, I
would think about where your
passions lie. For example if it is
social justice, think about how in
a city social justice is construed.
One thing I love about this major
is the flexibility in which you
can implement your ideas and
talents. The graduates from this
program are not carbon copies;
each person is unique to his or
her’s passion! I would encourage
you to see past the paper work
Ohio. Our clients wanted data,
land use plans and suggestions
on how they could get the
1600 acre site sold. A team of
ten worked on a small project
to obtain the goal set by the
client. Through the experience,
I learned perseverance in
understanding exactly what the
client wanted as well as how to
get a proposal across clearly.
Learning to be professional in
various settings is a very helpful
skill as well. From communicating
over emails to personal contact,
I saw the way relationships
and contacts can form just
by maintaining a professional
attitude and having grade-A
work to present.

Major:
City and Regional
Planning
Hometown:
South Vienna, Ohio
of an urban planning desk job
and into the future of how a city
and its people could be changed
by the work you do.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THE OHIO
STATE UNIVERSITY?
I didn’t know what I wanted
to major in and really had no
clue where to start looking.
That meant that specialized
schools were out, and the many
opportunities that Ohio State has
to offer were awaiting me.
HAVE YOU PARTICIPATED IN
A KNOWLTON OR OHIO STATE
SPONSORED STUDY ABROAD
PROGRAM? WHAT IS YOUR
FAVORITE STUDY ABROAD
MEMORY? WOULD YOU
RECOMMEND IT TO FUTURE
STUDENTS?
There’s so much to say about
studying abroad. I think everyone
should do it! This past May, I
went to Taiwan and studied
resiliency planning in the capital,
Taipei. While there, I acquired
many new contacts and formed
closer bonds with students
and staff that I believe will last
forever. Getting out of your home
country is significant to building
your own beliefs and ideas.
WHAT DO YOU PLAN TO DO AFTER
GRADUATION?
I plan to attend graduate
school and possibly join the
Peace Corps.
