Future Problem Solving, Team Booklet Competition (2009-2015…) Sep-March
FPS allows me to be creative and logical in the foresight of potential future issues.
Through the program, I have expanded my knowledge of international problems of various
lenses. It has opened my eyes to a bigger world, and shown me the joy of problem solving.
Poetry Club (2014-2016) Sep-June
This group is devoted to writing, editing, and performing spoken word poetry. In it, I
found a group of like minded people who were curious about the universe and all held a deep
affection for language. Through poetry I was able to explore my beliefs and perception of the
world.
TEDx (2014-2016) year round
This project of independently organizing a TED event taught me much of organization
and real world logistics. Between piecing together the event from scratch, organizing the
speaker selection, and numerous strict regulations of TED, I learned quickly to be organizing
and communicative in the real world.
Clarkston Help (2014-2016) August-June
This tutoring program taught me much of how I know what I know. I was forced to be
able to explain information so as to teach it. I could not simply regurgitate facts, but had to be
able to defend what I knew. This experience as well made me much more comfortable with
leading a younger generation, despite our differing levels of competence.
Junior Executive Board (2014-2015) November-June
This executive board forced me to be much more familiar with my graduation class.
Having grown up constantly in advance courses, my eyes were open to different social groups
that I had never before been personable with.
National Art Honors Society (2014-2016) September-June
NAHS taught me well in being creative, not merely for the fact of it being a group
based on art, a creative process, but because NAHS often lacked basic supplies. Art supplies
tend to be incredibly expensive and so I came to be very creative when facing these lack of
supplies for our ambitious projects.
UNICEF (2015-2016) September-June
participation to be completed, just started
Mt. Zion Competitive Dance Team- (2009-2014)- 8hrs/wk July-May & 80+ hrs rehearsals
The competitive dance team taught me to be aware of my body. Naturally, I
would not consider myself to be particularly aware of my body, being too caught up in my
mind. Thanks to dance, I am now very aware of how I am expressing myself through my body.
Church Youth Group- (2008-2015)- 2hrs/wk year round & 800+ hrs events
The youth group first taught me what it is like to be part of a community. There, I
found myself in a very strong “family”. Growing up along the same people, going on countless
retreats together, spending much of my week with them, I first learned what it was like to
belong to a community.
Ministry Team (2010-2014) year round
The ministry team was my first experience of leadership. Never before had I had
complete control to guide a project as my vision saw it be. I enjoyed the experience so much
that I would go on to lead many more projects, because of my first experience being so
positive.
Church Drama Club- (2006-2014) Sep-June
I am not a naturally loose individual. I can often be up tight. The drama club taught
me to not take myself so seriously.
National Honors Society (2013-2016) year round
I have always enjoyed serving, but NHS taught me, through trial and error, that I
best thrive when serving under my personal passions. It is then that I am personally invested
and touched. Being a passion driven individual, this made sense.
Philosophy Club (2014-2016) September-June
I have been raised in a relatively monotone society: a town that is nearly entirely
white collar and caucasian and heavily Christian. Philosophy Club opened me to a universe of
new opinions and worldviews that I had never considered. Resultingly, I broke away from my
raising’s dogma and came to form my own opinions, of which were completely different from
those I had been raised on.
Drama Club (2015-2016) September-May
I took part in creating the stage murals as well as ushering and participating in a
spring play of The Curiosus Savage, as the antagonist, Lilybelle. This community has instiled a
sense of familial network and finessed bravery to perform.
slams/open mics (2013-2016) year round
Performing at various slams and open mics has helped me solidify my identity, for
once on the stage, I am forced to express myself, setting claims to my beliefs. Through the
performances, I have come to be fearless and educated in my beliefs.
studio art (2013-2016) year round
Constantly creating art has forced me to be very aware of my perception of the
world. Being an incredibly visual person, it is very important for myself to be familiar. Because
of my art, I do not take my perception for granted but constantly question it.
Clarkston Cultural Arts (2014-2016) year round
This community art organization has allowed me to become very aware of my
town’s culture.
