Our Vision, Goal and Objective

                                                         Vision
Kenyan national CSOs that are strong, sustainable, efficient and have a lasting impact
on the health of all Kenyans as an integral part of a functional Kenyan health system

                                                         Goal
Sustained improvement in the health and well-being of all Kenyans

                                                   Strategic Objective
To build the capacity of 10 national level CSOs to become sustainable recipients of
large grants to deliver, together with their affiliates, on the community health
response

   FANIKISHA Institutional Strengthening Project 2
Why Institutional Capacity
Strengthening for Kenyan CSOs

 • CSOs are at the forefront of health service delivery at the
community level, and are integral to the health system. Yet:
       • They focus on service delivery and less on their own LMG
       • Their capacity development is often driven externally and
         sometimes ad-hoc
       • There are no standards or indicators to measure their institutional
         capacity

                                         The result is
                                       Low Sustainability

(CBOs) – to generate more results and accountability
• CSOs have restructured their governing boards, developed board
     guidelines and oversight plans
• Boards now holding CSO executives accountable for results at
     community level
• Executives have for the first time established performance targets
and indicators - for board review and monitoring CSO performance
• Peer exchange and learning is now routine among CEOs of CSOs
