Swarm Final Presentation - UCSD H4D 2016
1. seekSWARMdestroy

Problem Statement: Due to challenging constricted waters, the Straits of Hormuz offer ample opportunity
for non state actors to functionalize autonomous swarm devices for ISR and attack missions. The US
Navy lacks the capability to adequately detect, characterize/differentiate, and determine an appropriate
response to these complex threats.

- 21 miles wide (narrowest region)
- 25-200 meters deep
- 2-mile wide shipping channels.
- Average Naval ship speed: 15 knots ~
20 knots.
- Innocent passage: 12-miles out from
country’s border

11. - Fuse sensor data
- Display and organize
data to indicate swarm
threats
- Detect other threats from
which the swarms are
drawing attention
- Single system
monitoring.
- Sensor Fusion
- Recommend reaction
based on type of swarm
threat
- Classification of swarm v.
non-swarm
- Faster threat
classification

12. Hypotheses & MVP
12
Hypotheses:
● Swarms can be classified using fused data sources
● Different swarm types have different vulnerabilities
● Tactical reactions to swarms will be faster and more
effective if their characteristics are displayed to US
Navy warfighters
