5. Rubel Hossain, the
fastest bowler in
Bangladesh cricket was
born on 1st January,
1990 at Bagerhat,
Khulna, Bangladesh.
His father’s name
is Siddikur Rahman.
Rubel was born in a
very poor family. His
father was barely able
to provide the daily
basic requirements for
his family
6. Rubel Hossain began by
playing taped tennis ball
cricket in his hometown
Bagerhat, but his talents
were discovered during a
pacer hunt programme
where he topped the
speed gun .
7. Rubel loved to play cricket from his childhood.
He was a good batsman in his early life. No
bowler was able to get his wicket easily. But, he
was too poor to see his future in the national
level. Suddenly, a great opportunity came to
him in 2006. The biggest mobile
operator Grameen phone arranged a campaign
of searching pace bowlers from the root level
of Bangladesh. They took this initiative in
order to help the Bangladesh cricket by finding
some fast bowlers.
Rubel applied in this campaign and bowled at
72 miles/hour at first. He was rejected for that
time. He came again and bowled at 82
miles/hour at the next chance. Then, he got the
eyes of the selectors of the Pacer Hunt
Programme.
8. Rubel Hossain’s father Siddikur
Rahman did not like to let his son
play cricket. He rebuked Rubel a lot
for playing cricket. But, the
irresistible Rubel played cricket
despite his father’s orders. As a
result, his father stopped his studies.
He asked his father for money for
going to Dhaka, Bangladesh after
being selected in the pacer hunt
programme. But, his father was
unable to give him money due to
poverty. Somehow Rubel came to
Dhaka from Bagerhat by sitting at the
roof of a bus. He had no place to live
in Dhaka. BCB arranged a place for
him after knowing about his talent.
9. Thus, the batsman
Rubel Hossain
turned into the
pacer Rubel
Hossain. Although
he is concentrating
on his bowling now,
he is also capable of
batting at lower
order. So, he is
actually a pacer cum
all-rounder in
Bangladesh team.
11. He made his cricketing debut
in 2007, against Khulna
Division, for whom his hero
Mashrafe Mortaza plays. That
didn't stop him from bouncing
Mortaza and picking up his
wicket during their first
encounter at a local
competition. When Hossain
entered the domestic scene,
there were instances of
batsmen retiring hurt because
of his stock delivery. His love
for speed also explains his
fascination for bikes.
12. A quick bowler
with a slingy
action—not
dissimilar
to Lasith
Malinga's—Rubel
can consistently
deliver good pace
and bounce.
13. After a string of good
performances in
the National Cricket
League, he was
selected to play for
the Bangladesh
Under-19 team, and
soon after,
the Bangladesh A
team.
14. A right-arm fast
bowler with a sling
action, Rubel
Hossain made an
immediate impact in
his ODI debut,
troubling the
batsmen with his
bouncers and ending
with match-winning
figures of 4 for 33
against Sri Lanka
15. He made his test
debut against
West Indies in
2009 . More good
performances led
to him being
named in the Test
squad to face the
West Indies for
the first time
16. Rubel took three
wickets in West
Indies' 1st
innings, and
also formed a
good 10th wicket
partnership
with Shahadat
Hossain in
Bangladesh's 1st
innings.
18. In 2010 , against
Newzealand in
2nd ODI he took
1 wicket
conceding only
39 runs at an
economy rate of
4.87 .
19. In 5th ODI , he took 4
wickets conceding
only 25 runs in 9.3
overs .In this match
Rubel was named
man of the match for
the first time.
20. The Bangladesh
Cricket Board founded
the six-
team Bangladesh
Premier League in
2012, a twenty20
tournament to be held
in February that
year. An auction was
held for teams to buy
players, and Rubel was
bought by the Sylhet
Royals for $70,000
22. On 29th October, 2013,
he became the third
Bangladeshi bowler
and the first
Bangladeshi pacer to
do hat-trick in ODI
against New Zealand.
The New Zealand
middle order: Corey
Anderson, Brendon
McCullum and Jimmy
Nisham were his
victims. Thus, Rubel
contributed to the
Banglawash for the
second time.
23. In 3rd ODI against
Zimbabwe , Rubel
Hossain took 2
wickets in 5.5
overs conceding 21
runs .
24. In 4th ODI , Rubel
Hossain took 2 wickets
in 10 overs conceding 48
runs , which helps
Bangladesh to win the
match against
Zimbabwe.
