Functional Specification Document
Description
This re-design marks Version 3 of our Ebay initiatives. This marks the beginning of a new orientation on
how we approach the online market, mainly how we reach out to consumers, and how we track user
activity. Ebay is now considered as a listing space; the first touch point towards a more robust offering,
the Comprehensive Auto Report (CAR).
Foremost, the listing has been divided into 3 broad categories: Auto Biography, Buyer Assistance, and
Inspection Report. Each is designed to appeal to one specific aspect of the initial interest-gaining
experience.
There are 7 outbound links from the Listing to CAR. Each link takes users/consumer s to a specific page
on CAR, and each link will be tagged and tracked to measure activity.
This re-design is mainly cosmetic and organizational, with two (4) new functional/technical updates:
Vehicle characteristics, Audio Tour, Vehicle Data, and Aftermarket Features.
Nomenclature
CAR: Comprehensive Auto Listing. When consumers are looking for a specific vehicle, this is where they
will ultimately end up.
The Listing: MOTA’s Ebay-centric HTML page.
Gallery: Flash-based photo delivery mechanism.
Pricing Banner: Found directly underneath the gallery, it contains marketing copy and a dynamic slot to
display the vehicle price.
Auto Biography: New section; contains all user-generated content obtained from the Workflow.
Workflow: Online customer/data acquisition system used to meet all business requirements necessary
to generate CAR & The Listing.
Vehicle Characteristics: Sentence set generated from ‘EnterVehicleDetails.aspx’ page, and is displayed
based on rules outlined in this specification.
Audio Tour: Seller audio description of vehicle gained from IVR.
Vehicle Overview: Auto-generated copy that introduces vehicle to prospective buyers.
Vehicle Data: Top-level data points about the vehicle gained from the vehicle inspection. In the future,
this section will be mapped differently to accommodate vehicles with no inspection.

Vehicle History Report: Data package received from Experian AutoCheck covering all vehicle history.
Vehicle Features and Options: Auto- and user-generated set of data points relating to various
features associated with the vehicle at-hand.
Project Overview & Scope
Implementation of the listing is relatively straightforward. Ebay has strict posting requirements, so the
listing will be limited to HTML and Flash. All HTML cuts will be delivered to MOTA by our front-end
technologist.
The following new elements will require some time to implement. They are:
1. Vehicle Characteristics: Need to link the content gathered from Enter Vehicle Details page
with proper sentence set, and display accordingly.
2. Audio Tour: Have to enable users to download audio content. Aside from a link to launch the
content, no new content is necessary.
3. Vehicle Data: Comprised of 13 dynamic data points, and 1 static piece of content. Where the
data is sourced is flexible, so it is at the discretion of the system architect; we can obtain all of
them from the inspection report, or we can source part from the Workflow and part from the
inspection report.
4. Flash Player/Skin: The dimensions of the “frame” have increased, and a new color treatment
has been given. All these must be input into the Action Script.
5. Aftermarket Features: These are pre-defined data points that are gathered on the Vehicle
Options page. There are 11 in total, and, once captured in the database, will simply be slotted
into the appropriate section.
