LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION FOR GREG LENTZ
It is a pleasure to write this letter of recommendation on behalf of Greg Lentz. I had the pleasure of working with
Greg while at Marin Academy in his role as the Director of Informational Technology and Support Manager. He was a
pure genius at his job. He managed a complex network of computer technology and platforms, with an individual faculty
Apple laptop program, PC platforms for administrative use, multiple copy and printing machines, AV projection in
classrooms, multiple smart boards, 2 full Apple student computer labs and much more. He not only kept all of that
technology running on a campus consisting of 10 multi-leveled buildings on ten acres, but he did it with such ease, grace
and humility. His work would quite often go unnoticed or unrecognized, as the general expectation was that all the
technology in the school would just function properly at all times. It wasn’t until you were in crisis and you called him up
(much like sending out a Bat signal) that you realized and appreciated him for always being there to swoop in and save you
in that moment.
With every interaction and conversation that I had with Greg, it was clear to me that he took great care in his work
and relationship with colleagues and took his responsibilities very seriously. Greg was a deeply thoughtful educator who
had an extensive understanding of all technical aspects of the school, and came to school each day ready to take on
whatever challenge came his way. What I appreciated most about working with Greg was how he was always available and
so deftly swooped in to fix an issue with your computer, or help you when you were in that panicked moment of crisis
while trying to teach a class and the technology was not cooperating. He would come in and without any judgement or
side commentary, and fix the problem. And, if you were interested in the explanation as to what happened, he would
offer up his explanation in a non-condescending and easy to understand, user-friendly manner. I always loved Greg’s
calm demeanor, gentle approach and subtle sense of humor. He would find ways to say just the right insightful and
intelligent comment, with such good timing, it would leave you smirking or chuckling moments later.
Beyond just the technological expertise that Greg would bring to the workplace, what I appreciated about Greg was
that he would engage in the community because he clearly cared about the school, the students and the issues that the
community was grappling with. You would often see Greg show up at an open forum meeting and he would sit and listen
to students and adults, and on occasion, when appropriate, he would add his opinion to the conversation. Greg was not the
type of employee who would just come in to do his work and stay in his office, he was always out and about and interacting
with people and having thoughtful conversations. I appreciated that Greg modeled for students to be socially engaged and
to do it with such integrity.
It was a pleasure working with Greg during our time at Marin Academy. He will be an asset wherever he goes and I
recommend him with enthusiasm for his next endeavor.
Sincerely,
Hideko Akashi
