Technology
Before we get into technology related questions, we want to take a minute to refresh your
memory on the differences between the technology options available in the market today.
Specifically, we’re talking about client-server, cloud-hosted, and cloud-based systems.
While the terms may make them seem virtually the same, there are some key differences
between them that you should consider when making a purchase decision.
Client-server systems require you to house and manage a server within your practice, as
well as handle the associated IT needs.
Cloud-hosted systems store and host data on servers managed by vendors, but you still
have to pay for IT maintenance (plus there are limits on the devices you can use and how
they’re updated).
Cloud-based systems on the other hand, leave all the hard work to your vendor. Since data
is stored in the cloud by servers maintained by your vendor all you need is access to the
Internet and an Internet browser.
