Australia and New Zealand continue to significantly outperform other regions with an average GRESB Score of 69 (global average is 56). The regional trends show that sustainability goals and ESG disclosure are firmly part of mainstream business practices for the Australian/NZ real estate sector: 93% of companies and funds disclose their sustainability performance. With rising investor expectations for transparency, information availability and data quality, and a regulatory push requiring asset-level energy efficiency ratings for privately and publicly-owned real estate, the region is staying ahead of the curve: 54% of Australian/NZ companies and funds have obtained green building certificates and 87% have an energy rating (vs global 71%). In addition, best practice leases that include sustainability-specific clauses have become mainstream in the region, 91% of participants now include such clauses in their standard lease contracts (global: 60%).
