2. Productivity isn't everything,
but, in the long run, it is
almost everything. A
country’s ability to improve
its standard of living over
time depends almost entirely
on its ability to raise its
output per worker.
— Paul Krugman
3. J. Ignacio Conde-Ruiz, Nada es gratis
España tiene un problema de
productividad
“El principal problema de la economía
española es sin duda la ausencia de
productividad.”
“La productividad del trabajo, medida
como PIB por trabajador,
prácticamente sólo aumenta cuando
se destruye empleo,”
“La Productividad Total de los
Factores, que mide como mejora el
proceso productivo, normalmente
gracias a la mejora tecnológica,
prácticamente no ha crecido en las
últimas décadas.”
I+D+i, Quo Vadis Spain?
4. Los mejores y el resto…
Hay una brecha creciente
de productividad entre los
lideres y el resto.
Debida principalmente a la
divergencia de PTF (MFP)
OECD
promedio europeo

España no es país para innovadores…
10. La inversión en I+D es baja
OECD (2018), OECD Main Science and Technology Indicators (database).
12. La apuesta del capital riesgo es baja
K Fund, 2018

¿Gartner Hype Cycle?
Seamos realistas…
Industry 4.0 is the qualification of the ‘factory of the future’, shaped by policy interventions that
have fostered the adoption of smart manufacturing technologies in Europe, and resulting from
the convergence of a new wave of operational technologies with Internet-driven IT This might
be a fundamental component of a Fourth Industrial Revolution, but does not coincide with it
because of its still relatively limited scale and scope.

Revoluciones industriales: 3,4,5,6…

TECH TRENDS IN MANUFACTURING
• The trend toward increased sustainability
requirements in our customer industries continues.
• Our strong regional presence opens up opportunities
to participate in local innovation processes and gain
access to local talent.
• Research activities funded by the BASF Group
promote the targeted development and
enhancement of key technologies as well as the
establishment of new business areas.
• Potential applications of digital technologies and
solutions along the entire value chain are
investigated in both the operational and functional
divisions as well as by cross-divisional teams, and
tested in dedicated pilot projects. They are
supported here by the Digitalization & Information
Services unit.

• The automotive industry is undergoing a radical
transformation process (…) facing major challenges in
the areas of customer/market, technological
advances and legislation.
• Due to the intensity of the competition and the speed
of technological development, identifying relevant
trends at an early stage and reacting accordingly is
crucial.
• we therefore conduct trend analyses and customer
surveys and examine the relevance of the results for
our customers.
• we are stepping up our efforts to forge
collaborations, both for the transformation of our
core business and for the establishment of the new
mobility solutions business.
• Partnerships can lead to patent and licensing
infringements and thus to the unauthorized
disclosure of company-specific expertise.
• Industries in which we operate undergoing consolidation
(…) risk that critical suppliers are taken over by
competitors.
• Disruptive technologies. In the fields of digitalization
(e.g. IoT, web of systems, cloud computing, Industry
4.0), there are risks associated with new competitors,
substitutions of existing products/solutions/services,
new business models (e.g. in terms of pricing, financing,
extended scopes for project business or subscription
models in the software business)
• Localizing certain value chain activities, such as
procurement, manufacturing, maintenance and service
in emerging markets could enable us to reduce costs
and strengthen our global competitive position.
• Climate change represent a serious risk for business and
society. It also represents an opportunity for Siemens to
help mitigate its effects.
• The most significant opportunity continues to be success
from long term value creation through innovation (e.g.
electrification, automation and digitization)
