1. I am… Fatma Said Mohammed Al Sulaimani, the Human
Resources Manager at Radisson Blu Hotel, Muscat. I have
worn several hats during the seven years of my career
and discovered my passion in Human Resources three
years ago. I have experience in managing key aspects of
human resources such as; talent acquisition, performance
management, strategic HR management, compensation and
benefits, talent development and employee relations.
I studied... I graduated in 2007 from Sultan Qaboos
University, College of Commerce and Economics with a
Bachelor’s Degree in Business with a specialisation in
marketing.
How I started out… I began my career in 2008
as a leadership trainee with the Zubair Corporation where I
handled diverse responsibilities within the group’s marketing
and HR departments. Moreover; I have completed my two
months internship as a Marketing Executive in Australia for
an Australian based firm.
My mentor was… In my life, I have been blessed
with some great mentors personally and professionally. The
best mentors I have ever had are my parents and my husband
who have all advised me one important thing – to invest in
the future. “Everything you do is an investment for your future.
Understanding that the time I spend, the skills I master and
the network I build is an investment for my future gave me
the freedom to take risks. Don’t just concern yourself with
success and failure.” Therefore; I always take this piece of
advice into consideration and move forward towards success.
Words of inspiration I will never
forget… Whenever I do anything I always remember
these words of inspiration from the great poet Maya
Angelou.“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said,
people will forget what you did, but people will never forget
how you made them feel.” and “My mission in life is not
merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some
passion, some compassion, some humour, and some style.”
The obstacles I faced... I believe that life itself
is a challenge with a lot of obstacles in the way. I have faced a
lot of obstacles which I overcame by striving hard to achieve
my goals.
The glass ceiling.... I believe that nothing can
stop you from achieving your goals. All you need to do is work
hard and believe in yourself.
Success to me means... Success is a
subjective thing which has different meanings for each one.
I determine my success by being a good mother to my two
kids; not feeling stressed and overwhelmed on a regular
basis; setting and reaching meaningful goals, helping others
do what they love and following my dreams.
Words of advice... My advice to all is in life you
will have to face challenges and obstacles and sometimes
you may feel that things can’t be achieved but always
remember that the ‘sky is the limit’! It’s important to set goals
for yourself in order to strive hard to achieve them, no matter
what it takes.
