Title D5.4.1 Training Materials
Creator Karel Charvat (WRLS)
Description
This document describes the Training materials, which is currently available on FOODIE Moodle platform.
On the base of Training plan, initial scenarios focused on methods used in sustainable agriculture were
prepared. Special lectures were established in order to stimulate demands of stakeholders for new tools
and methods of using on-line open data for agriculture production, context and sharing data in on line
repositories. There were prepared first set of scenarios, focused on good agriculture practices and also
first material focused on data fusion. The Training Material for FOODIE has following parts:
 Introduction – a general four-step process been modified for each pilot. These four steps include:
building the initial scenarios, vision building workshops, testing of initial scenarios, and user
requirements collection workshops.
 Chapters for training - the first material for methods used in sustainable agriculture was already
prepared by project partners. There are two categories: Methods of Farm Management and
Software Components and Tools of Farm Management.
 Conclusion defining next steps - initial Training materials have been created. Training related to
tools will be organized in later stage. Vision building workshops will be organized during Months
13 – 14.

About the project
FOODIE project aims at creating a platform hub on the cloud where spatial and non-spatial data related to
agricultural sector is available for agri-food stakeholders groups and interoperable. It will offer: an infrastructure
for the building of an interacting and collaborative network; the integration of existing open datasets related to
agriculture; data publication and data linking of external agriculture data sources, providing specific and high-
value applications and services for the support of planning and decision-making processes.
FOODIE project is addressed to four basic groups of users: a) stakeholders from the agriculture sector as end-
users of final applications, b) public sector for communication with farmers about taxation, subsidies and
regulation, c) researchers for large scale experimentation on real data and d) ICT companies for the
development of new applications for agriculture and food sector, mainly using implemented tools
FOODIE specifically works on three pilots:
 Pilot 1: Precision Viticulture (Spain) will focus on the appropriate management of the inherent
variability of crops,
 Pilot 2: Open Data for Strategic and Tactical Planning (Czech Republic) will focus on improving future
management of agricultural companies (farms) by introducing new tools and management methods,
 Pilot 3: Technology allows integration of logistics via service providers and farm management including
traceability (Germany).

Executive Summary
According to the D5.3 Training plan [1], there were prepared sets of initial educational materials. To stimulate de-
mands of stakeholders for new tools and methods of using on line open data for agriculture production, context and
sharing data in on line repositories, there were prepared first set of scenarios, focused on good agriculture practices
and also first material focused on data fusion. This gave to stakeholders a better overview about new possible tools
and it will stimulate new requirements. The scenarios for every workshop will be focused in two directions: improving
farm management methods and new software tools.
The materials are currently available on FOODIE Moodle platform [2], which was installed as part of FOODIE infra-
structure.

1 Introduction
The training methodology for the FOODIE project is an adaptation of methodologies successfully used in previous pro-
jects Metaschool [3] and Naturnet plus [4]. The methodology is focused on the needs of the core groups of stakehold-
ers, on building a close contact with them and gaining feedback on the user requirements surveys. In order to achieve
the maximum impact from our initial interaction and consultations with the stakeholders, we propose a general four-
step process, which has been modified for each pilot. These four steps include: building the initial scenarios, vision
building workshops, testing of initial scenarios, and user requirements collection workshops. This process will run in
parallel with the implementation of the FOODIE service platform. The first part of the training will be mainly focused
on training of the trainers (in English). These trainers will then provide training to other stakeholders.
This document is focused on initial stage of training, preparation of platform and first lections. In the initial stage,
MOODLE [5] on the supercomputer hub in Poznan was implemented. On the base of Training plan Initial scenarios fo-
cused on methods used in sustainable agriculture was prepared. In the first period, the material will be now used for
training trainers about these subjects. In the next period, Vision building workshop will be prepared on the base of the
materials.
According to Training plan the MOODLE educational platform was installed on supercomputer hub in Poznan. FOODIE
Moodle Platform is already available on the Internet: http://foodie-vm3.man.poznan.pl/moodle/
Two users have been created in order to allow all of you to log in and evaluate the current organization of the courses:
foodie-teacher/foodieTeacher-15; foodie-pupil/foodiePupil-15. There are no differences for the moment in their
roles.

On the base of Training plan, initial scenarios focused on methods used in sustainable agriculture were prepared. Special lectures were established in order to stimulate demands of stakeholders for new tools and methods of using on-line open data for agriculture production, context and sharing data in on line repositories. There were prepared first set of scenarios, focused on good agriculture practices and also first material focused on data fusion. The Training Material for FOODIE has following parts:  Introduction – a general four-step process been modified for each pilot. These four steps include: building the initial scenarios, vision building workshops, testing of initial scenarios, and user requirements collection workshops.  Chapters for training - the first material for methods used in sustainable agriculture was already prepared by project partners. There are two categories: Methods of Farm Management and Software Components and Tools of Farm Management.  Conclusion defining next steps - initial Training materials have been created. Training related to tools will be organized in later stage. Vision building workshops will be organized during Months 13 – 14. About the project FOODIE project aims at creating a platform hub on the cloud where spatial and non-spatial data related to agricultural sector is available for agri-food stakeholders groups and interoperable. It will offer: an infrastructure for the building of an interacting and collaborative network; the integration of existing open datasets related to agriculture; data publication and data linking of external agriculture data sources, providing specific and high- value applications and services for the support of planning and decision-making processes. FOODIE project is addressed to four basic groups of users: a) stakeholders from the agriculture sector as end- users of final applications, b) public sector for communication with farmers about taxation, subsidies and regulation, c) researchers for large scale experimentation on real data and d) ICT companies for the development of new applications for agriculture and food sector, mainly using implemented tools FOODIE specifically works on three pilots:  Pilot 1: Precision Viticulture (Spain) will focus on the appropriate management of the inherent variability of crops,  Pilot 2: Open Data for Strategic and Tactical Planning (Czech Republic) will focus on improving future management of agricultural companies (farms) by introducing new tools and management methods,  Pilot 3: Technology allows integration of logistics via service providers and farm management including traceability (Germany). Grant Agreement No.: 621074 Page:9 / 39 Executive Summary According to the D5.3 Training plan [1], there were prepared sets of initial educational materials. To stimulate de- mands of stakeholders for new tools and methods of using on line open data for agriculture production, context and sharing data in on line repositories, there were prepared first set of scenarios, focused on good agriculture practices and also first material focused on data fusion. This gave to stakeholders a better overview about new possible tools and it will stimulate new requirements. The scenarios for every workshop will be focused in two directions: improving farm management methods and new software tools. The materials are currently available on FOODIE Moodle platform [2], which was installed as part of FOODIE infra- structure.
  • 10. D5.4.1 Training Materials http://www.foodie-project.eu Copyright © FOODIE Project Consortium. All Rights Reserved. Grant Agreement No.: 621074 Page:10 / 39 1 Introduction The training methodology for the FOODIE project is an adaptation of methodologies successfully used in previous pro- jects Metaschool [3] and Naturnet plus [4]. The methodology is focused on the needs of the core groups of stakehold- ers, on building a close contact with them and gaining feedback on the user requirements surveys. In order to achieve the maximum impact from our initial interaction and consultations with the stakeholders, we propose a general four- step process, which has been modified for each pilot. These four steps include: building the initial scenarios, vision building workshops, testing of initial scenarios, and user requirements collection workshops. This process will run in parallel with the implementation of the FOODIE service platform. The first part of the training will be mainly focused on training of the trainers (in English). These trainers will then provide training to other stakeholders. This document is focused on initial stage of training, preparation of platform and first lections. In the initial stage, MOODLE [5] on the supercomputer hub in Poznan was implemented. On the base of Training plan Initial scenarios fo- cused on methods used in sustainable agriculture was prepared. In the first period, the material will be now used for training trainers about these subjects. In the next period, Vision building workshop will be prepared on the base of the materials. According to Training plan the MOODLE educational platform was installed on supercomputer hub in Poznan. FOODIE Moodle Platform is already available on the Internet: http://foodie-vm3.man.poznan.pl/moodle/ Two users have been created in order to allow all of you to log in and evaluate the current organization of the courses: foodie-teacher/foodieTeacher-15; foodie-pupil/foodiePupil-15. There are no differences for the moment in their roles.
