2. Russian rookie Danil Kvyat performed well enough to
earn him a promotion to the Red Bull team for 2015
replacing world champion Sebastian Vettel.
3. 2009 World Champion Jenson Button gave it his all in
2014, out performing his team mate and often punching
above his weight in an uncompetitive McLaren car.
4. Jules Bianchi scored the first points for the Marussia team at
the Monaco Gran Prix. Bianchi remains in a serious condition
in hospital following a horrific accident at the Japanese
Grand Prix.
5. 4 time World Champion Sebastian Vettel had a difficult
year in 2014. With no wins and being out-performed by
new team mate Daniel Ricciardo.
6. Felipe Massa will be pleased he made the switch to
Williams for the 2014 season, beating his former team
Ferrari in the constructors championship.
7. Despite battling team-mate Lewis Hamilton for the
championship, Nico Rosberg was only voted #5 in the poll.
Rosberg won 5 races and was in the title running right to the
end of the season in Abu Dhabi.
8. Bottas scored 6 podiums in 2014 coming 4th in the
drivers championship. The young Finn looks likely to go
onto great things in F1.
9. Ricciardo was promoted from Torro Rosso to Red Bull for
2014 and showed he has what it takes to drive in a top F1
team. With 3 wins and some of the most impressive
overtaking manoeuvres of the year he was voted #4.
10. Widely considered the #1 driver in F1, 2 time World
Champion Alonso had a pretty miserable 2014 with Ferrari –
their worst season in over 20 years. Despite this Alonso did a
good job coming 6th in the championship.
11. Unsurprisingly 2014 Champion Lewis Hamilton was voted #1 in
the poll. Hamilton had a number of set backs throughout the
season and a heated battle with team-mate and rival Rosberg but
came out on top as the chequered flag dropped on the season.
12. This top 10 was the result of a poll of the Formula 1
team principals‘ taken by Autosport magazine.
