Problems Arising Regarding Food Assistance Programs
7. Possible Solutions and Suggestions
Food Stamps should try to expand the purchases of EBT cards
• For example allow for the purchases of household goods
like shampoo or paper towels
• Ensure that participants can only buy healthy staples of food
• USDA oversees these programs, but gets a lot of support from
various agencies such as Agricultural Marketing Service, Farm
Service Agency, Food and Nutrition Service, etc
• Shouldn't be mixed with other organizations, as each
branch has their own purposes
8. ▪ SNAP program helps lift millions of households out of poverty each year
▪ Functions as an economic stimulator
▪ Promotes better nutrition
▪ Lower rates of obesity and other health issues regarding to weight (ex: cardiovascular
diseases)
▪ Makes efficient use of taxpayer money
▪ There are many food assistance programs, aside from SNAP, that support millions of
people, taking any and/or all of these programs could possibly affect a total of
three million people
