The researchers aimed to improve the signal to background ratio in the decay chain ; ; by selecting for the mass distributions at each decay level until the signal was visible above the background. Starting from the last decay, selections were made on probabilities of tracks being noise, lifetime, particle identification, position, mass, and corrected mass. The analysis resulted in a mass measurement of , a sigma of , and signal entries of , though studying the particle was inconclusive with the current data. Further studies on systematic uncertainties and with more data could provide more useful information.
