The Lynda A. Silverman Catastrophic Critical Illness Scholarship was formed to recognize exceptional students who have personally gone through or
had someone in their immediate or extended family go through a catastrophic critical illness or disease. As everyone knows, illness affects a family
not only physically and emotionally, but it also has a profound negative impact financially. Cancer is the most costly disease in the world to fight and
is the second leading cause of death behind heart disease. The lifetime stats for a man developing cancer are 1 in 2 and for a woman are 1 in 3.
Lynda A. Silverman, the mother of Eric Silverman, owner and operator of the Silverman Benefits Group, passed away in May of 2001, due to a
combination of severe catastrophic health challenges that caused her an enormous amount of pain and suffering. Her illness caused tremendous
financial stress and it wasn’t easy for Eric’s family to help put him through college. After applying for countless scholarships, unfortunately, Eric
wasn’t awarded any money to help pay for his 4-year degree. Upon founding the Silverman Benefits Group and when financially able, Eric always
wanted to, in some way, honor his mother by giving back to college students who had gone through similar experiences in their personal lives.
