Five Modern Awards will be affected by
the changes:
• General Retail Industry Award 2010
• Hospitality Industry (General) Award
2010
• Fast Food Industry Award 2010
• Pharmacy Industry Award 2010
• Restaurant Industry Award 2010
4. From 1 July 2017:
• Public Holiday rates will be reduced from
250% to 225% for permanent employees
• Public Holiday rates will be reduced from
275% to 250% for casual employees
General Retail Industry Award 2010
5. Phased in over the next 3-4 years:
• Sunday rates will be reduced from 200% to
150% for permanent employees – phased
in over 4 years
• Sunday rates will be reduced from 200% to
175% for casual employees - phased in
over 3 years

6. From 1 July 2017:
• Public Holiday rates will be reduced from
250% to 225% for permanent employees
• Public Holiday rates will be reduced from
275% to 250% for casual employees
Hospitality Industry (General) Award 2010
7. Phased in over the next 3 years:
• Sunday rates will be reduced from 175% to
150% for permanent employees – phased
in over 3 years
• Sunday rates will not change for casual
workers, they remain at 175%

8. From 1 July 2017:
• Public Holiday rates will be reduced from 250%
to 225% for permanent employees
• Public Holiday rates will be reduced from 275%
to 250% for casual employees
• The 10% evening work penalty applies from
10pm- midnight (previously 9pm)
• The 15% midnight penalty applies from 12am-
6am

9. Phased in over the next 3 years:
• Sunday rates will be reduced from 150%
to 125% for permanent employees (level
one employees only)
• Sunday rates will be reduced from 175%
to 150% for casual employees (level one
employees only)

From 1 July 2017:
• Public Holiday rates will be reduced from 250%
to 225% for permanent employees
• Public Holiday rates will be reduced from 275%
to 250% for casual employees

Phased in over the next 4 years:
• Sunday rates will be reduced from 200% to
150% for permanent employees (7am to
9pm only)
• Sunday rates will be reduced from 200% to
175% for casual employees (7am to 9pm
only)
12. Restaurant Industry Award 2010
From 1 July 2017:
• Public Holiday rates will be reduced from 250%
to 225% for permanent employees
• Public Holiday rates will remain unchanged at
250% for casual employees
• The 15% midnight penalty applies from 12am-
6am
13. Restaurant Industry Award 2010
No changes to Sunday rates for this Award
• Sunday rates will remain unchanged at 150%
for permanent employees
• Sunday rates will remain unchanged at 150%
for level one and level two casual employees
• Sunday rates will remain unchanged at 175%
for level three- six casual employees
