Actress biography press release
1. Known for her off-Broadway shows including Bollywood Wedding and Baggage Claim, India-born
actress P*** Y*** brings a multitude of up-and-coming true Telugu talent to New York city.
As a film and theatre actress, Pragathi has got her career off to a flying start with her most recent
performance as a lead character in award-winning documentary play, Seven, in 2015 and South Asian
International performing arts festival hit, Taconic Parkway.
She has a string of successful films behind her including the starring role in 2012 hit Super Capitalist,
which premiered at Asian American International Film Festival and 2013 independent feature film,
Iraade Maum Ke. Both were a success in their own right, with much publicity surrounding them.
P***'s first film role landed in the critically-acclaimed Ooops-a-Desi, given credit for its handling of its
cultural subject matter, aspects of a film which lie at the heart of P***'s passion.
Through her acting talent, P*** is ardent about bringing cultural elements in her movies to American
audiences, as well as building a foundation for Indian-Americans to be able to relate to their lives, and
to build on the talent of actors hailing from far-flung parts of the world.
With a steady stream of successful plays, films and comedy performances behind her, it has made P***
hungry for more.
As well as her acting talent, she has also branched out into writing scripts for plays – including those of
the comedy genre, which have been put on the Broadway Comedy Club in New York.
Born in Andhra Pradesh, P***'s love of the arts actually started with dance before she went to
university, performing in Maa TV's first show, Dum Dum Dig A Diga and in Dance Baby Dance for
one of India's largest television channels, Gemini TV. However, her dream was cut short when her
parents wanted her to find a more stable job, and she stopped to complete her computer science studies
at university.
But that wasn't fulfilling enough for P***.
She made the decision to pursue her dream of acting and went on to study acting at reputable Lee
Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute, and went on to land lead film roles, showcasing her talent and
highlighting the issues that matter to her the most. P*** has since gone onto write plays, each of which
focus in on matters very relevant to her home country and which highlight particular issues. 'Who's to
Blame' deals with society and its attitude towards the mentally ill, while 'Fair' is about the caste system
in India. P*** hopes to develop these into screenplays to reach a wider audience.
As well as the promising Telugu talent's ambitions for her own plays, she has big plans to continue with
building her portfolio of films that promote awareness of sensitive issues to people in her home
country, and celebrating culture, bringing it home to America.
