Objective
I am seeking an entry-level position to gain valuable industry experience as a Chemical Engineer, while utilizing my
previous experiences in project management, critical problem solving, as well as my relevant coursework.
Work Experience
Vertellus Specialties Elma, WA Chemical Engineering Intern Summer 2015
Managed 18 separate projects, eight of them major, requiring significant capital expenditure ($5000 to
$50,000) within a 12 week term, utilizing excellent time management skills. Some projects include…
Maximized heat exchanger efficiency problem of twenty years, within a $30,000 budget, using laboratory
experiments and thermodynamic properties specific to the system, while eliminating a safety hazard by
improving steam transfer back to the boiler house
Identified and corrected a pumping problem for minimal cost by evaluating existing equipment, and
improving the efficiency using centrifugal pump calculations
Revised use of open area for empty drum storage by working with the city to obtain a permit, saving the
company $250,000 through a creative and cost effective solution to optimize storage capacity
The DOW Chemical Company Elma, WA Chemical Engineering Intern Summer/Winter 2014
Researched, specified, prepared and obtained Management of Change approval, and oversaw installation of
three large 15 foot posts and barricade netting for personnel protection, a large self contained storage unit for
hazardous lab samples, a new style (peristaltic) pump for sludge containing material, and fork truck fall
protection on a warehouse loading dock.
Used heat transfer simulation tool to optimize three parallel heat exchangers, including documenting a
procedure for operator’s future optimization.
Updated firewater system flow calculations and drawings using flow simulation software and identifying,
obtaining, and teaching myself to use AutoCAD software
Updated twelve plus P&ID’s for required Process Safety Management deadline
