2. The Griswold Point Preserve is a
portion of beach that is located at
the mouth of the Connecticut
River in Old Lyme, CT.
3. The beach spans about 25
acres, and is home to many
different plants and species.
4. Dogs are allowed on the
beach after Labor day and
before Memorial day, but
are not allowed the rest of
the year (This is my dog,
Teddy)
5. Volunteers as well as the staff
at the Connecticut Nature
Conservancy monitor the
populations of piping plovers
and least terns, which are
two species of birds that live
on the beach.
6. This portion of the beach began
being protected in 1974 in a
series of bargain sales involving
four landowners, one of whom,
Dr. Matthew Griswold of Old
Lyme who the beach is named
after, donated his interest in
the land to the Conservancy.
7. When you look out from
Griswold Point Preserve, (You
can just barely see it in this
picture!) you can see the end
of Long Island and Plum
Island, New York.
