Sekaten is a ceremony held on the 5th of each Javanese month of Mulud in Yogyakarta, Indonesia to commemorate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad. The ceremony was started by Sultan Hamengkubuwana I to promote Islam and invite the public to follow the religion. It involves meditation, offerings, and crowds. Sekaten displays Islamic religious symbols but also represents a blending of Islamic and Javanese cultures.
