Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has expressed sadness over the death of the former member of
the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Major-General Henry Adefope (rtd).
The Governor who conveyed his condolence in a statement on Thursday described Adefope as a man of
many parts whose impact was felt in medicine, military, sports administration, labour relations and
international diplomacy.
He noted that Adefope was one of the first medical graduates that joined the Nigerian Army and built
the Army Medical Corps to an enviable standard which has military hospitals where soldiers and civilians
enjoy quality medical services.
Fayemi also recalled what he called sterling contributions of Adefope to sports development in Nigeria
during his tenure as the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and later as a member of the
International Olympic Committee (IOC).

not indicted in the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympic bribery scandal that rocked the global sports
body.
The Ekiti helmsman noted that the contributions of the late Army general to the nation’s foreign policy
as Minister of External Affairs under the Olusegun Obasanjo-led military administration would always be
remembered.
He called on the family of the deceased to be consoled by the good life lived by the late octogenarian in
which he touched the lives of fellow Nigerians and foreigners alike noting Adefope lived a fulfilled life
before dying at the age of 85.
