The kakapo is a large, flightless parrot native to New Zealand that was once thought to be extinct but was rediscovered on Stewart Island. It eats plants like rimu berries, flowers, roots, and seeds. While heavy, nocturnal, and unable to fly, conservation efforts are helping protect the kakapo, one of New Zealand's endangered native birds.
