We would be completely remiss if we did not thank the EERI staff for all the support they have put in on this project behind the scenes. They have been an invaluable resource to the two of us and we would like to offer our sincerest gratitude. In particular, Juliane Lane and Sonya Hollenbeck are the unsung heros of the competition. Without their hard work this competition would cease to function. If we could have the two of them come on stage, we would like to present them with a small token of appreciation.
Kinimetrics has been a substantial and consistent contributor to this event. At this time I will ask Derek Skolnik of Kinemetrics to come on stage to present the Kinemetrics award for Spirit of the competition. As he’s making his way up, let me give you a brief description of the award. This award is awarded to the team that has the best impact on the competition in the views of their competitiors. They have displayed graciousness, humility and encouragement for all teams, not just their own. This award is determined by all of the competing teams themselves.
The Degenkolb award for Structural innovation is awarded to the team that showed the most creativity in the design of their structural system. Among the contenders for this award are teams that used air dampers, friction dampers, negative stiffness devices, and inelastic fishing line fuses. This award is determined by a vote of the Student Leadership Council.
CSI has been one of our largest private contributors for the last few years. It is only fitting that this year, more than 70% of the teams used SAP or Etabs for all or part of their analysis. The communication award is given to the team that has most effectively explained their conception, design, and analysis during both the oral presentations and poster session. This award is determined by the panel of guest judges.
