- 75 percent of PCOS women are insulin
resistant.
- Obese PCOS women have 30 percent higher
rate of insulin resistance than lean PCOS
women.

However, symptoms can be managed by:
Dietary changes
Lifestyle modification
Physiotherapy/exercise/yoga
11. Gonadotrophin releasing hormone antagonist
- suppresses GnRH secretion till the
treatment lasts.
Food- consumption of jowar, bajra, green
leafy vegetables, apples, grapes, oranges,
berries, nuts recommended.
12. Physiotherapy/ exercise therapy- important
role in managing symptoms & preventing risk
factors related to PCOS.
Studies show that Aerobic exercises for 8
weeks 3 sessions/week of 45 mins duration
improves quality of life in PCOS women by
decreasing Body mass index (BMI), no. of
follicles & regulation of menstrual cycle.
13. Structured exercise programme with
cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) helps to
overcome stress, depression, BMI, waist hip
ratio (WHR) in adolescents.
High intensity interval training (HIIT)
Squats, lunges, crunches, chest press,
biceps curls, jumping jacks
14. Circuit training involving aerobic and
strengthening exercises of major muscle
groups.
Aerobic exercises can include treadmill,
cycling, jogging, walking, dancing
Strength training can be done using weights,
resistance bands, resistance tubes

16. Circuit training for 6 weeks 3 sessions/week
is known to improve metabolic &
reproductive symptoms, also improves
cardiorespiratory fitness in women with
PCOS.
Breathing exercises can be adopted for
relaxation which can help in hormonal
imbalance.
17. Women with PCOS can suffer with back pain,
lower abdominal pain, sacroiliac joint pain
which can be managed using electrotherapy
modalities like TENS/IFT, cryotherapy, hot
packs.
