"Dr. Gautam Swaroop is a promising Interventional Cardiologist from Lucknow extending catheter based treatment for structural heart diseases. Practicing since 2015, Dr. Swaroop’s professional affiliation lies with Lucknow–based Vivekananda Polyclinic & Institute of Medical Sciences and Hari Spandan clinic, practicing during the morning and evening hours respectively. On completion of MBBS, Dr. Swaroop trained in MD (Medicine) and DM (Cardiology) finalizing his education from institutes such as MLB Medical College, Jhansi and KGMU, Lucknow. Dr. Swaroop excelled in his MBBS examinations bagging several Gold medals for the same. Currently working in Sahara Hospital, Lucknow and he has worked for Vivekananda hospital."
2. TAVR TAVI
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a minimally
invasive heart procedure to replace a narrowed aortic valve that
fails to open properly (aortic valve stenosis).
3. • Provides percutaneous orthotopic placement of a
prosthetic tissue heart valve
• Replaces native aortic heart valve without
open-heart surgery and without concomitant
surgical removal of the failed native valve
• Placed within the annulus of the stenotic valve
by means of a catheter
• Three components
• Delivery Catheter System
• Aortic Valve Prosthesis
• Crimping/Loading System
TAVI Description
4. The benefits of TAVI and other minimally invasive
treatment options may include:
• Lower risk of infection
• Less trauma to the chest and heart muscle
• Reduced length of hospital stay
• Decreased recovery time
• Ability to return to daily activities sooner, such as
exercising and driving
What are the benefits of a TAVI procedure:-
5. Why it's done
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a treatment for aortic
valve stenosis. Aortic valve stenosis — or aortic stenosis — occurs when
the heart's aortic valve thickens and becomes stiff (calcifies). As a result,
the valve can't fully open and blood flow to the body is reduced.
TAVR is an alternative to open-heart aortic valve replacement surgery.
People who have TAVR often have a shorter hospital stay than those who have
surgical aortic valve replacement.
Your doctor may recommend TAVR if you have:
– Severe aortic stenosis that causes signs and symptoms.
– A biological tissue aortic valve that isn't working as well as it should.
– Another health condition, such as lung or kidney disease, that makes open-
heart valve replacement surgery too risky.
6. The patient may start feeling better. This may be because the heart valve is now
working properly. Some patients may take longer to feel better. Many TAVI patients
report benefits like:
Having more energy
Being able to do everyday activities
Breathing normally
Experiencing less pain
Feeling less anxious
Benefits And what to expect From TAVI
7. Most medical procedures have risks. The most serious
Transcatheter aortic valve implantation risks include:
Death
Stroke
Serious damage to the arteries
Serious bleeding
Need for a new permanent pacemaker
TRANSCATHETER AROTIC VALVE REPLACEMENT
RISK
8. The Medtronic TAVI valve should NOT be used for patients
who:
• Have an infection
• Have a mechanical valve
• Cannot take blood thinning medicines
• Have a reaction to some metals
• Have a reaction to some imaging solutions
9. Some patients may have a disease that results in more calcium in
their blood. This may cause early wear.
• The Medtronic TAVI valve is only for certain patients.
This includes patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) or
failing surgical valves who:
• Are at high risk or greater for surgery
WARNINGS
10. PRECAUTATION
• At some point the Medtronic TAVI valve may need to be replaced. How
long it lasts varies from patient to patient.
• The Medtronic TAVI valve has been tested to mimic 5 years of use without
failure. Keep appointments with your doctor. Follow all care instructions to
ensure the best possible results.
• Antibiotics may be recommended for patients who are at risk of infections.
• Patients may be asked to stay on blood-thinning medicines after
the procedure as instructed. Patients who do not may be more likely to have
a stroke.
• If you require an MRI scan, tell the doctor you have a Medtronic TAVI
valve. Tell your doctor if you have a Medtronic TAVI valve inside a
surgical valve. Not doing so may result in injury or death. Your dentist and
all doctors need to know about the Medtronic TAVI valve.
